Please chance me for Northwestern University

High school senior
Public high school in Newsweek's Top 1200 (coming in around #400, competitive school in our state)
GPA=3.8 unweighted; GPA weighted 4.2
Top 10% of class
SAT (second try) = CR 580, Math 600, Writing 500
SAT (first try) = CR 560, Math 580, Writing 570
One parent a legacy
Will consider taking ACT

Undeclared major, but leaning toward science/health with eye toward pharmacy/med school or a political science major.

National Honor Society (2 years); freshman mentoring program (2 years); Women Scholars (3 years); community service (2 years); school newspaper (2 years); volunteer in political campaign (1 month so far).

Haven't been involved in more ECs (specifically frosh and soph years) due to family illness and resulting circumstances and responsibilities at home. No formal job experience outside babysitting for same reason. Will aggressively pursue "formal" summer employment.

AP History (A in course as soph; 1 on test=shocked)
AP Calculus (in progress)
AP Biology (in progress)
All Honors courses when offered in all other areas.
Currently taking English course at local CC.

Straight A's junior year and one semester soph year, no grades lower than B. Good recommendations. Essays will most likely be considered strong. (I do write well despite my lackluster SAT writing scores.)

Can you chance me please and/or give me tips on how to improve my application? Thanks!

Can someone please chance me? Thanks again!

Hey! I'm applying to NW as an ED. Got sort of the same stats as you do, just differing test scores. Your GPA and course load indicate that you are a good student, just maybe a bad test taker. Consider the ACT for sure and gun for 30 + . And give some subject tests too, they should make the application stronger and considering you are taking loads of AP classes, your knowledge should get you 700+ on these. With slightly better test scores, I think you have a shot!

Good luck. Maybe I'll see you at NW

FYI: 2007-08 First-time, first-year (freshman) admission, Common Data Set - Northwestern University

Thanks everyone! Sounds very reasonable to me. Any other opinions to the contrary?

I appreciate your replies.
