@auntbea My GPA is not competitive? UC’s and CSU’s only use 10-12 GPA, and I currently have a 4.2 UC GPA, because I have only gotten two B’s. Also, I would disagree, that a 600+ is a bad SAT Score. I have 640 in Math and a 600 in writing. Many of my peers who are applying to the same UC’s as me have way lower scores, I am talking in the 400s and 300s. My best friend got into UCSB, and UCSC last year with a 1600 so please don’t say that my chances are slim. I engage in EC’s simply because they are FUN, and I don’t want to waste my additional time on school work, I actually want to enjoy my time. I don’t consider getting a three as struggling, becasue I got A’s in all my AP Classes.
You asked for chances, right? I thought that’s what I was doing. If that GPA is converted to a UC gpa, and is unweighted and accurate, then you really need to worry about grade inflation at your high school campus.
Your grades aren’t reflecting nor corresponding with those SAT and ACT scores. To be “considered” for most of the UC’s, your SAT scores should be over 2000 (2200+ is better) and ACT’s should be near 32+. Especially if you hope to be admitted to a nursing program (they are impacted). Most schools really LOOK at your math and reading scores which would put you at 1130/1600. That reading score is really weak; just being realistic here.
Look at the latest articles on California admissions: http://theatln.tc/1QcpCEg
Check this CC website and look at the numbers of students getting high SAT/ACT scores with 4.0+'s. Look at the 5’s with corresponding A’s. AP tests are national; the schools need to have something to compare you to other students. Some colleges will only give “credit” for 4’s and 5’s; every college is different so you need to check how they will use your AP scores. (A three means that you are “qualified” to get credit, but its just passing). My former students have reported that they were fortunate that their good grades were only a part of the application and that their test scores reflected good performances. EC’s are supplemental, but when you are spread too thin, it doesn’t help.
FWIW: all three of my Mex-Amer children have been through this process and were very active on their HS campuses. It really didn’t matter that they were URM, the deciding factors were their test scores in combination with very good GPA’s.
You may want to consider retaking the tests since you should have one more opportunity in December. Otherwise, apply and hope for the best.
@“aunt bea” I just want to say that I got into all the schools you “doubted” I would get into. I will be attending UCLA School of Nursing. I also got into UCI, SDSU, and CSUF All for Direct Entry Nursing, UCSB, UCD, CPSLO, CSU Channel Islands, and Seattle U. I was waitlisted at Berkeley, UPenn, University of Portland and Gonzaga, and rejected at NYU, USF, Georgetown, USC, and Stanford
