I plan to apply as a nursing major as it is my dream and goal in life to become a nurse and help others! I also have gotten only A’s in classes that I took at my local commuity college which ranked #1 in the nation!

Hmm…your test scores are pretty low for someone in the top 10% of their class and with a 3.8 UW GPA. What is the reason for that?

Northridge - safety
Fullerton - match
San Jose State - match
Irvine - match (but tougher than Fullerton and SJSU)
Arizona State - low reach
UCLA - reach, and I believe you will be denied
NYU - out of reach. No shot with those low test scores.

NYU and ASU would likely be too expensive without big merit scholarships – check their net price calculators (and those at all other schools’ web sites) to get an idea of need-based financial aid.

ASU overall is not hard to get into, but frosh admission to the nursing program requires a 24 ACT or 1100 SAT CR+M, according to https://nursingandhealth.asu.edu/bsn . So you would need to retry the ACT or SAT. But then there is also the money issue; you probably need to aim for a big enough merit scholarship, not just admission to the school or major.

SJSU posts past admission thresholds by major at http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/impaction.html . The eligibility index referred to for frosh applicants is given at https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/eligibility_index.asp using high school GPA calculated by https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/gpa_calculator.asp .

ASU/CSUN are Matches
SJSU is a High Match for Nursing but the EI changes each year which seems to be getting higher.

UCI and UCLA are high reaches. GPA is good but test scores need a major boost with Nursing being very competitive.

I would add a few non-impacted Cal States to your list since Nursing is so competitive. Retake SAT or ACT but concentrate on only 1. Good Luck.

@stepay I actually wonder why they are low as well. I took the psat and scored 170~ however my actual SAT was much lower. Anyways thanks for the input!

@stepay I actually did get into UCLA, UCI, and Fullerton. I was denied at NYU and didn’t apply to the rest.
