-Thanks

What is TAMS:
The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science. While living in McConnell Hall, students in this two-year program complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college coursework at the University of North Texas (UNT). Instruction is by regular university faculty. There are no high school courses taught, but students enjoy many of the activities of high school and the company of age mates who are intellectual peers.

Your grades and extracurriculars are pretty strong, but your sat is on the lower side. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in depending on your gender and high school. Ive heard it easier to make it in if you’re a girl (less applicants) or not from the Plano/Dallas area. Hope this helps!

Thank You. I currently go to Coppell High School. Is it competitive there? If so, how many people do they take in from CHS?

Also, how does TAMS take in people? Depending on gender, school, ethnicity?

Im not familiar with that specific school, but since coppell is fairly close to dallas, you may be facing high competition with plano west/jasper students. Talking to your current school counselor may help, too. Regarding gender/school/ethnicity, TAMS has a higher ratio of boys but they do try to keep it balanced. I think school really matters in admissions. TAMS is aware of competitive schools and prefers students from those schools, however, they don’t want all their students to be from the same high school. Fortunately, I’m pretty sure TAMS isn’t as ethnically biased as some colleges are and don’t really prioritize ethnicity.

Thanks so much. Are you a TAMster? If so, could you give me a % scaling on what matters the most in the application? (grades, SAT, interview, essay, Recommendation letters) Also what is the gpa required to get in?

Thanks

Could someone tell me more about the interview day and the algebra tests taken for TAMS? If I get an invitation for TAMS, what does that mean? Am I already accepted into TAMS?

Thanks.

Hi tdkeerthi!

I’m currently a TAMS senior. I commented on your other post, but I’ll go ahead and copy some of that stuff here. An invitation does not mean you’re accepted yet. You must attend the interview to be considered, and those who get accepted get a big envelope in the mail  The interview is very relaxed, so don’t stress over it. However, the math tests are very important. Don’t slack off and not study for them! You need to do really well (as in only missing one or two) if you want to get in. Good luck :)

Thank you. So do you know any ways to study for the math tests other than the practice exams they sent us through mail? Are there any other websites where we can get practice questions? Is there any way I can contact you (email) to get more information about TAMS? Thanks for the advice!

also,do you know how many ppl from coppell high school make it into tams?

I would strongly, strongly suggest just using the tests they send. The actual tests will be very similar to these. If you are struggling with certain concepts, then I would just google it, and there will be tons of links :)

I don’t think they have a hard set number for each school; it depends on the competition each year

How many people (approximately) get rejected from the interview day?

Thank You so much for all your advises. I did get into TAMS.

Can someone that has been to a interview day explain to me more about the questions and how the math tests are? Plus it would be helpful if you can tell me how TAMS accepts people at the point of interview day and further? Thank you so much, any help is greatly appreciated!!

hi tdkeerthi, i was wondering if the sat scores you have stated on this thread are the same SAT scores TAMS accepted you with, or did you take the SAT again before applying to get a higher score, Thank You.

They accepted these SAT scores.
