2170 SAT (first try)

770 US History, 690 Biology, 650 Literature (might not send Literature?)

AP World and AP US - 5 on each

This year I am taking AP Bio, AP English, and possibly self-studying AP Gov

I have a bunch of decent extra-curricular activities and GPA, but I know they don't really care about those.

Which schools should I be looking at with stats like these?

I do not understand all those numbers. But… these type of threads annoy me, how can you possibly expect an answer when you haven’t said what you want to apply for?

Sorry, I forgot that one key part. Probably history.

Well your scores are a bit low for Oxbridge, but you’re probably in range for LSE, UCL, Warwick, Edinburgh, and St. Andrews.

michael - I’d agree your stats are perhaps a bit low for Oxbridge and LSE like 5 APs at 4 or 5 and don’t like Government as a subject - there’s a list of their accepted subjects if you look at their info for US applicants. But otherwise I’d think you’d be competitive at top 5-20 history departments. The Times newspaper has the best rankings - check for history as it varies quite a bit from overall rankings.
Then the fun bit - you need to look at the individual degree programmes to see which cover the eras or regions that interest you most. If you’re not 100% sure about just studying history, then the UCAS site will show the many subjects you can combine for a joint honours degree. Or look into combined honours at Durham or newcastle or many Scottish universities that let you study three subjects and specialise later.
Also think about the universities, don’t just go on prestige. Do you want to live in a big city or would a small town or campus university be better for you? Do you want to be by the sea? Are there things you’d want to be involved in like arts, journalism, sports - if so check out the students’ union pages at potential universities. When you’re beginning to narrow down to your 5 choices, then there’s a site like this in the UK called ************** - I’d suggest posting in the history or individual universities’ sections for more detailled answers than you’ll get in the general section.

Good luck!

OK clearly one may not recommend helpful sites in other countries. Google UK and student and forum and you’ll get there I think.

Thanks everyone for the advice, especially Bewildered. Yes, I actually know of the site you’re are talking of ;)

I agree very much with bewildered123. Dont just look at the top rated universities and assume they will do what you like. But id also add that History at UCL, Edinburgh, St Andrews and LSE are just as competitive (if not more so) as Oxbridge and will no doubt expect the same outstanding academic results.
