Hi, and thanks for moving your post from the UVA forum to the chance forum.

To my highly inexperienced eye, you look like a fairly strong candidate. I was admitted as an OOS student as well. Your SAT score, course rigor, and volunteering look spot on. THe only thing hurting your application is your GPA, which doesn’t match up with your course rigor. What is your class rank?

The fact that you are Hispanic will most likely help you, especially coming OOS. You sound very passionate about children, which I’m sure will come across in your essays. Of course, OOS admission to UVA is difficult for anyone, so don’t count on your admission, but it looks like you have a decent shot. Good luck!

On your last post, you asked about the honors program. For the college of arts and sciences, that’s the Echols Scholars program. At the time of admission, UVA selects about 200 applicants who are particularly strong and offer them a spot in the program. Echols Scholars are exempted from all distribution requirements, get priority registration over the rest of their class, live together the first year (in the newest dorms, with A/C), and receive extra advising. Obviously, admission into the program is rather difficult, and UVA students who aren’t admitted during the initial application process can apply during their first year. As an Echols Scholar, I know the priority registration helped me get my first-choice schedule this year. I’m happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability :).

I should also add that the Echols program does not get you into any special “honors” classes. Good luck, again!
