please chance me for wesleyan

Hi so I'm applying to Wesleyan ED.

SAT

First SAT: 640 CR, 800 M, 580 WR
Second SAT (Studied for this one): 710 CR, 740 M, 760 WR

Wesleyan superscores so thats 2270 SAT

Subject tests

Math 2: 800
Chemistry: Haven't taken it yet but I expect low 700's

Grades

Freshman year I was in 3 honors and 2 standard classes. I got Bs in the honors and As in the standard, so that was a 4.0 weighted

Sophomore year I took 5 honors classes and got all As and a B in Trig. 4.8 weighted

Junior year I took 3 APs (Physics, statistics, AB calculus) and 3 Honors and got all As, so 5.0 weighted

Altogether that's 4.63 weighted and 3.75 unweighted

Senior year I'm in 4 APs and 2 honors, but I'm also in an independent math study and will be switching in to my 5th AP, BC calculus, second semester

I got three 5's on my junior year AP tests

My two main extracurriculars are that I'm very into songwriting/poetry, and last year I was chosen as the featured performer at my music school's year end recital. I'm also in a religious program called Walking the Walk which promotes itself as "interfaith community service" where a bunch of students from different backgrounds come together and discuss religion. The community service comes every third session.

Besides that I've done some sort of sport every season, I think I have two great rec letters, and I'm planning on writing a stellar essay. What do you think?????????????

There are a lot of variables in addition to grades and standardized tests that would affect the chances of getting into a SLAC, particularly Wesleyan. Among them are 1) gender 2) major and 3) geographic location. Imagine your SAT score as a moving total and make the adjustments suggested below to give you a better idea:

Almost all LACs want some sort of parity between boys and girls and, unless there’s an engineering department or a superannuated varsity sports program on hand to attract males, more women than men tend to apply. Subtract about 50 points from your SATs if you are a woman.

All LACs want more science and math majors. Science and math constitute about a third of their course offerings and yet few people identify them as science powerhouses. That’s a misperception. Add about 50 points to your SATs if you are a science or math prospie and are willing to make that obvious in your application.

Most SLACs are located on the east coast and draw ~half their student bodies from the Northeast Corridor that runs between Washington DC and Boston. Every SLAC wants to boast that they have student bodies from “every part of the country and the world”. Subtract another 100 points from your SATs if you are from New York, Boston – and, increasingly – Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Marin County and points in between.*

Now, none of the above represents anything like official Wesleyan policy and if you quote me on it I will deny having said it. But, it’s my humble opinion based on years of reading CC college “results” threads. It’s also based on common sense.

*does not apply if you are applying to Bowdoin, Colby, or Bates.

thanks so much. As a matter of fact I am a boy, deeply invested in math and science, but from philadelphia–so the latter may be a disadvantage.

^^But, not as much as it might be if you were applying to Swarthmore or Haverford. ;)
