Extracurriculars/Leadership:
1. Varsity cross-country- captain senior year. I plan on competing at the NCAA level and could get some admissions help from DIII coaches.
2. Varsity track and field- distance runner, possible captain senior year. Same as above. xc and track are huge year-round commitments for me and are really important in my life.
3. Service club- member sophomore, junior, senior years; club engaged in volunteering locally. Really community oriented.
4. Athletic council- basically a leadership club for athletes, I will be a member senior year because captains are required to attend.
5. Students for Barack Obama- Sophomore year during the election season I was a co-founder and co-captain of my school's chapter. This was pretty time consuming for a year or so.

Awards:
National Merit Commended
French honor society
AP Scholar

What are my chances at...
Claremont McKenna College
Occidental
USD
Colorado College
Willamette
Northwestern

I'm mostly interested in CMC and Occidental. Any suggestions for safety schools (preferably DIII and out west) would be appreciated too! Thanks!

You would very likely have no trouble with Willamette. Since Track and xc are important to you I would definitely check them out. They have had very very strong runners nationally.

Claremont McKenna College- low match
Occidental- never heard of =/
USD- match
Colorado College- safety
Willamette- never heard of
Northwestern- match

I believe that if you can reach out to the coaches on each team and give them your times and pr’s, granted that they are fast…but they must be considering you’re on varsity, the coaches can put a word in for you during the application process. Furthermore, get your coach to touchbase with the school’s coach.

As such, become a recruited athlete, and you’ll be into the schools on your list!

Btw, as a fellow xc runner, what are your times?

You’re chances at the colleges you listed are great. I would say all of these are medium to low matches. If you improve your SAT II scores, I would say you have a shot at some of the more prestigious schools as well.

Yeah, I’m in touch with a couple of the coaches on that list and it looks like I could get a pull from them. I’ve got 18:47 for 3.0 miles in XC (converts to ~19:30 for XC 5k) and 5:47 for 1600. My PRs aren’t amazing because I’ve been injured a lot-- the 5:47 was in the first race of indoor season so I think I would have at least been around 5:30 if not for a stress fracture. I’m a girl so obviously my times are a lot slower than a guy’s.

Bump - will chance back

Your stats are amazing and from what I know, it’s pretty set that these colleges you listed would get on their knees to get you to go to their college.

thank you for chancing me(:
Claremont McKenna low reach/match
Occidental my friend got into that school and she had slightly lower scores (in terms of gpa)than you, so i would say match
I’m not very familiar with the other universities, so I can’t really say…but, in terms of western schools, the UCs are also very good, so I suggest that you look into those as well. There are 9 undergrad campuses. If private is more your thing, Pepperdine is pretty well known too…I’m not very sure how they are in terms of athletics and xcountry, but you can look into those too.

the only school that is even a little bit of a reach is cmc, but you have good chances to all the schools. what are you planning on studying?

Thanks everyone, and I’m planning on going into kinesiology/biology depending on the school.

The only thing keeping these schools from being matches for you is your GPA, which is definitely a bit low for some of these schools… however, your rank is a little closer to being on point… which might help you out…

Claremont McKenna College- high match
Occidental- low match
USD- ?
Colorado College- safety/low match
Willamette- in?
Northwestern- HIGH match/reach

Good luck! Thanks for chancing me earlier.

Claremont McKenna College-high matchish
Occidental-middle match
USD-unfamilar
Colorado College-unfamilar
Willamette-unfamilar
Northwestern-reach

thanks for chancing me

to be honest I have never heard of the schools but the only one i am vaguely familar with is NorthWester
I say with ur stats u could conisder that a safety
jus bring up ur GPA to little and u even have a great shot at some top tier colleges
good luck

You don’t have a chance. Shoot for your community college.

OXY has seen a surge in apps due to the “Obama went there” phenomenon, you have strong stats though, so I think it’s a match.

ColCollege: your stats are in the 75th%tile range, so let’s call it a match/safety.

Northwestern I see as a low reach, SATs are a little too close to the 25th%tile to get real comfortable, but I think your profile is a strong one.

CMC has one of the lowest admit rates in the country (15%-ish this year), avg GPA is around 3.8-3.9, and 50th%tile SAT is 2100. To my way of thinking that makes it a high reach for you.

i would say the only pretty reach school is claremont mckenna
your unweighted and SAT might be a LITTLE on the low side
but besides that, your chances are great

just my opinion. i could definitely be wrong.

Claremont McKenna College – maybe more of a reach
Occidental – should get in
USD – should get in
Colorado College – idk
Willamette – (Willamette University in Oregon? should get in)
Northwestern – maybe more of a reach
