Please chance me. It will be well appreciated!

Hey,

I am currently a junior in HS (living in Pennsylvania).

I took 3 SATs so far (one in March 2009 (soph year), Oct 2009, March 2010).

Mar 2009: 670 CR, 740 M, 720 W
Oct 2009: 670 CR, 750 M, 800 W (78, 11)
Mar 2010: 720 CR, 770 M, 710 W (75, 8)

Superscore 1490/2290.

I also want to take the SATs in October to get 2350.

I was looking through CB's website, and some of my top colleges want all scores to be sent (UPenn, Rice, some others)

So, should I retake the SATs in October or would the 4 test-takes look even worse than a 3?

GPA - 4.45 (weighted, 7th rank out of 330), 3.93 (unweighted, 23 rank)

SAT IIs - 700 M Level 2 (I plan to retake in June to get a 770+), 740 Bio
I plan to take US History and Chem

APs - 5 bio, 4 Calc AB (taking Chem, US History, Calc BC)

ECs - club officer, varsity track, 3 other clubs, Mathletes regional winner, hospital volunteer (200+ hrs) one great research on Bacteriophages at University of Pittsburgh (I plan to make that my main focus in my essay).

Recommendation letters - 2 teachers have a really good opinion of me (one of them is actually the wife of University of Pittsburgh's Dean for Honors Colleges, so she knows how to write a rec. letter reeeally well)

PSAT - 220 (71 CR, 80 M, 69 W), This should be enough to qualify for semi-finalist for Pennsylvania

Ethnicity - Indian (from Asia), born there

Hooks - Moved to 3 different countries, could talk about my adjustments, etc.

Would my current SATs coupled with the rest of my resume be enough to get into most Ivy's (UPenn, Darthmouth, Cornell)? What about HYPS?

I want to be a doctor, so I would choose a bio-related major w/ Pre-Med program.

bump 10char

I will chance you back if you chance me.

Well you’re on the right track involving your SAT’s and GPA. EC’s just a tad light for ivies, but it looks pretty good to me.
Try using ur ED option on Cornell and I can well imagine you getting in or something
The colleges you mentioned are a crapshoot for everyone to begin with. I suggest maybe tieing up the EC’s and your in

Don’t take the SATs again. That looks excessive and your scores are definitely in the range for any school. You’re definitely competitive at all the schools but I can’t really say much more than that about any Ivy. I think HYPS may be a little too reachy, and you’re probably in at Cornell.

As an update (and bump  )…

SATIIs – 800 MathII, 780 Chem, 770 USH, 740 Bio

APs - 5s in Calc BC, AB subscore, Chem, USH, Bio

thanks so much for chancing me! hahah thats so cool! im indian too LOl. okay anyway, I dont think you should overdo the SAT another time seeing as you have really showed ur strength upon taking the SAT ur third time. As for Rice, I think you definitely have a shot ( i’m in houston). Seeing as you want to become a doctor, Rice really likes to see lots of humanities too so i suggest wriitng on ur application that you’d like to major in psychology or some other humanities related course, it definitely shows the more passionate side of you. As for college essay, if there is an option for you to another one, i’d advise you to talk bout one of ur passions or struggles such as your nomadic movements from one country to another and discuss how that has become a part of you.

I agree I would not retake the SAT if your key goal is a school that does not accept score choice. None of your scores would keep you out of any ivy.

Enough for most ivies? No. As an Asian candidate from the Mid Atlantic, you are competing against scores of candidates with stats every bit as good as yours and considerably better. Getting in will come down to differentiating yourself and reading like someone they want on campus. Unless you have a great angle on it, writing about scientific research may not be the best way to accomplish that.

If Penn is your number 1 school, I would suggest to definitely ED to it since it has a good ED acceptance rate.

UPenn ED is a good idea, I’d say. Your SAT scores put you on top and your GPA is nearly perfect! It’s true that no one really knows what will happen when it comes to admissions at ivies, but I think you have a good chance. I have a friend who had nearly identical stats as you (yours may be even be better!) and he applied ED to UPenn, got deferred, then accepted. He also got into Duke, Cornell, and Brown. Hope this helps- best of luck :)
