I applied for the Autumn 2015 semester and went for the Morrill Scholarship but I’m so nervous. My sister received the Excellence Scholarship when she applied for the 2013-2014 year and she had a 4.0 with a 27 on her ACT. She used the topic of dancing for her cultural diversity since she danced in plays like Chocolate Nutcracker. I have a 32 and a 3.5 gpa but I feel like my essay isn’t good enough. Also my gpa sucks compared to my sister and I don’t know if it’s good enough for the scholarship. I centered my essay around how my family uses food stamps and I have a single parent and how me having a job takes away food stamps and hurts my family and how I live in the suburbs with most of my friends having two parents and how they were shocked I use food stamps. Basically I wrote about my differences financially and how it’s affected me around a lot of people who live comfortably with two parents to provide for them, and also how it affects my friends views on those who have less money and things and who use food stamps, since my friends thought that was a “poor” thing. Of course I could’ve talked about my racial diversity since I’m Hispanic, Native American, African American, and Caucasian but I didn’t want to be the obvious, plain type of essay since diversity encompasses several different things. However, I’m not sure if the topic is good enough for the scholarship. Also, does anyone think the 3.5 might hurt me?
