So right now I’m EXTREMELY stressed out with my grades, I just wanna know what colleges I can get into in the Midwest, my top choice is Loyola (not too hard to get into) and U of I (they’re getting selective). My grades are TERRIBLE. I got a couple of Cs freshman year, mostly Cs sophomore year, a couple of Cs beginning of junior year, and all As second semester when I got my act together. I have loads of ECs: President of MSA, President of Model UN, Science Olympiad, 200+ hours volunteering at a hospital, 100+ hours teaching at a weekend school, Aspiring Medical Professionals, BPA, shadowed an accountant for a bit, and many top awards in each of the clubs. However, my GPA unweighted is a 2.98 and my ACT is a 32. I just wanna know if I have a chance at any college let alone my top choices, I’ve just gotten so stressed and totally regret all my terrible grades and really did try to make it up for it with excellent essays and recommendations, a great ACT and great ECs . Please just help me out here!
Also applied to Purdue, DePaul, Indiana State, Iowa State, UIC, UChicago (lol just because), U of W Madison, Benedictine, Aurora University, Lake Forest College, Ohio State. Chance me for whatever you guys can! I know my grades are pretty bad but my recommendations and ECs are pretty solid
If not engineering, you have a good chance at Purdue. If engineering it’s not enough i think, your ACT would be 2 to 3 points above average, but your GPA is far from average. Regular purdue is easier because your ACT is significantly above average, like 6 points. Good EC’s and essays should help.
Not planning on engineering, just wanna apply to the regular programs! I just want a safety school so I already applied to NIU and Northcentral, any other potential safeties yall can shout out that I would most likely get into?
Your good ACT score indicates that your grades should be higher than they are. Is there a GC who knows you well and who can write a positive letter for you that helps explain the discrepancy?
You’re in at Loyola, and they’ll probably also offer Honors Program (say yes :p).
Purdue = match for non-engineering/CS fields (but if you’re not going for these, probably not your best choice)
DePaul= match to safety, could get scholarship
Indiana State= safety, but have you run the NPCs to make sure you can afford it?
Iowa State = same thing
UIC=
UChicago= yeah, no. Sorry.
U of W Madison= reach; can you afford it if you get in?
Benedictine, Aurora University= safeties
Lake Forest College= low match
Ohio State= not sure, they’ll like your score and your OOS $, but they will NOT like your GPA,and your ECs are unlikely to count for much there.
For UIC, your GPA is on the low side, but the ACT is high, average is 24. UIC values GPA over ACT score. For all their talk of holistic admissions, grades and ACT/SAT scores are what will get you in. For Engineering, your chances are very low but you might have a chance with LAS. You won’t have a chance for UIC Honors because your grades are too low. Your school’s reputation can help or hinder your low grades.
I think most of these are low reaches for you, probably high matches. Probably will get into Purdue, Ohio State, Indiana State. The others can be a toss up honestly. You have a pretty good shot except for UChicago which would be nothing short of a miracle. Best of luck to you and make sure to tell us where you ended up getting into and what your choice is!
You’ll get into depaul, niu, north central, Indiana state, probably Purdue, UIC,Benedictine, loyola, aurora, and iowa state. UIUC and wisconsin- low reach. OSU-high match. U chicago- high reach
Thanks so much for the comments guys! I know UChicago is a huge longshot…worth a try lol. Anyways, I’m strong in literally everything but GPA, I can get excellent letters, got a great ACT score, and can write a good essay. It’s just the one D on my transcript that’s really scaring me along with that 2.9.
