Please chance me? USC, Princeton, and a couple of others.

I'm a white/Caucasian junior at a highly-competitive high school in Hawai'i.
(I have taken every AP and Honors course offered by my school so far, with the exception of Physics Honors in Junior Year)

Class Rank: My school does not have this system. but I believe I am like 6th.

My Community Service so far is 100+ hours.. I worked quite a bit at a soup kitchen at my church, volunteered for a week at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park with some classmates, volunteered at my school's craft fair, volunteered with Best Buddies (as previously mentioned), volunteered at several invasive species removal projects, I fundraised for Relay for Life in 2013, and I also volunteered one week teaching Spanish literacy to children in an impoverished village in Nicaragua.

I have also participated in many races around the island that benefit charity, such as Run for the Whales, in which I placed 1st, in 2012.

I plan on using my ACT score (but retaking it one more time just to see if I can get higher) because my SAT score isn't the best.

So based on what you've seen so far - do you believe I have a standing chance for these colleges? Mahalo in advance :) I feel as if my math grades and my lack of strong EC's might hurt me.. but please let me know. I am not the expert! haha

Bump! Please help

No idea about USC, I’ll chance you for Princeton.

SAT/ACT on the low side. GPA so-so, but it is a competitive high school, so, I think it is fine. ECs between decent and good. I’d say mid reach. The problem is that Princeton is so damn competitive, and stats seem to matter a ton for Princeton.

Stanford: reach/high reach
Princeton: reach/high reach
UPenn: reach
Pomona: low reach/reach
USC: high match/low reach

It depends on what you do junior year to determine whether some of these schools are low reaches or reaches, or reaches or high reaches, etc. it’s hard to determine exactly right now. but if you improve your GPA a little, and do a lot more ECs w/ leadership and volunteering, you might have a shot at getting into one or more of those schools. but right now, nothing stands out at all in your stats, which could be a problem.

Stanford: reach
Princeton: reach
UPenn: low reach
Pomona: high match
USC: match/high match

:) chance me please?

Thanks guys. I know  ECs are a huge hurdle for me… Especially considering that I feel like I have absolutely no time for anything. I live an hour away from my school and I get home at like 7pm every night, then do 4
hours worth of homework, sometimes more. I’m just praying that colleges take that into consideration.

Your near heptalinguality should help you as well!

There is a small chance that you’ll get into UPenn, Stanford, and Princeton. Your SAT is low for these schools and your gpa isn’t the best either. Your extracurrriculars are atypical and not too strong. Are you a letterwinner for tennis or cross country? You should emphasize your love of running in your application. If UPenn is your first choice, you should apply early decision to boost your odds if there’s no financial concerns. You should have no problems getting into your safety schools. USC is a high match and Ponoma is a low reach. You should study your SATs and subject tests to boost up your scores this summer.

Haha I hope the languages help HYPSM. That’s one of the things I really love. By the time I graduate I should be proficient in 1 or 2 more languages hopefully. And in college I plan on taking mandarin and/or Arabic

That’s exactly why I was going to use my ACT and work on that. Because my ACT is a lot better than my SAT and I believe most schools take either, right? I’m starting to get a lot better in cross country so I might move up in the standings senior year. Thanks for the advice Class!

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/USCFreshmanProfile2012.pdf

Statistically your profile is ‘average’ for USC but with a sub 20% admit rate I think you need to treat it like a reach. If you’re a student at Punahoa, USC is a very popular school and your guidance counselor can give you a better insight into your chances.
