-Hospital Volunteering: I started in the summer, 8 hrs a week, have about 50 hrs so far.
-Volunteering at a pediatrician’s office: about 2 hrs a week since summer.
-Danced (ballet) pretty much all my life with some breaks in between. About 5 hrs a week up until 10th grade, then about 3 hrs a week since.

Awards:
2 Achievement in Science awards, and a scholar-athelete award. That’s about it I think.

Oh and I am going to be 1st generation college grad (in America) (parents came here when I was 6). I think this matters because they kind of don’t know what in the world is going on with this whole college process. I am Russian/Ukranian/German/Dutch.

I don’t know what else could add to this, lol.

You are a better fit for Santa Cruz or Riverside. Your GPA is a little low and your CR and M SAT scores need to come up quite a bit. You definitely should retake them (and you should register right away! The deadline for the Nov. test is, I think, 10/11). Good job on your Writing score. When did you take the test for the scores you posted? How many times have you tested? Play up the dancing--it shows long-term committment.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Better fit for Santa Cruz or Riverside? This is possibly the dumbest reply I've ever seen on this site. You do realize his scores are in the middle 50% of Davis, right? Even with the math 10-20 points lower, his Writing makes up for it. His scores are about 100 points above Davis' average. That said, his GPA is a perfect fit for Davis.

And the fact that you tell him he's a better fit for SC or UCR is just disgusting. You obviously know nothing about UC admissions and if you're just going to discourage people you should get off this site. There are tons of people in this forum that have had much worse stats than his and gotten in. Even if his GPA was a little lower than Davis' average (it isn't, it fits perfectly with the students who actually attend UCD), that won't automatically kill his chances (especially since it's only like .1 away). Admission officers could care less about a .1 difference in GPA, especially since his overall SAT is higher than Davis' average. And the fact that you're telling him he's a better fit for a much less selective school over such a difference is just stupid.

You act as if Davis' admissions suddenly turned into Berkeley's overnight. Those "averages" are so high because those are the students that are accepted there. Students that apply to Berkeley and other top-tier UCs use Davis as a safety all the time (and usually are accepted), thus the average scores are higher. Davis has only a 25% yield, and many of those people with higher scores go to higher-up UC's. If you look at the average scores of the ones who actually attend Davis, it's much lower (500ish SATs, 3.7ish GPA). Davis is 60% acceptance, that's hardly low.

Salmonscrubs, I hope I didn't unduly discourage you and I hope you understand (since I posted my source) that my intention was to help you and encourage you. When you get to Davis be sure to choose your friends wisely.

i was scrolling through the site that schmoomcgoo posted, and it said that the UCs can weight up to 8 semesters during the LAST 3 YRS of high school

so my question is, this has to be a typo right? b/c they wouldn't know what our senior grades were

u can get to that web page by clicking on UC admissions guidelines on the left

Additionally you self report your senior year courses. The rigor of your senior year (not the GPA) IS important and is considered in your admissions chances.

Seems like a slight reach. 1st generation helps you a bit but it'd be nice if you balance up your SAT scores just a bit. 770 writing is nice though.
