Well I think I have the interest to back it up. I have fully taken advantage of the architecture courses at my school. I will be taking a class my senior year where we design a house then the best design is chosen to be built in a gated community in my town. It will sell for about $500,000, which isn't much for that neighborhood. But anyways, it has been a dream for mine to get picked.
Does anyone know what the program at Notre Dame is called? I couldn't find it on their pre-college programs page. Can anyone tell me whether or not they think I would be accepted to their program? I know they have high expectations, I'm just hoping I can live up to them.
Snwrider2007: Thank you for the advice about transferring, I really just wanted to clear the air of the decision and make sure those stereotypes were true. I just know the ONLY place I will be happy is Notre Dame. I have promised myself I will get a degree from there. If all goes as planned, I will attend Notre Dame for graduate school, but that's a long time. What do you mean you can't transfer to school of architecture? Would I be in college for seven years or something?

I meant that it would show an early interest in ND, not architecture, although that obviously helps too :) and the architecture program link is on the pre-college program page at the bottom left, next to NDVision: Pre-College Programs // University of Notre Dame

Wow, I am blind. I never thought to scroll down. I was thinking it would be under the programs of study. It looks as though the architecture program is not part of the regular Summer Scholars program. Is it part of it?

HerecometheIrish : here is from the ND website regarding transfer to Business and Architecture school.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to enrollment limitations, Notre Dame is not accepting transfer applications for the Mendoza College of Business or the School of Architecture. We do not anticipate a change to this policy in the foreseeable future. If your goal is an undergraduate degree in business or architecture, you should not apply to Notre Dame.

Okay now there is a way around this.... but yes it could result in being in school for 5+ yrs. You can transfer once you are in Notre Dame like, in between programs, but you must be in one of the colleges for at least one year. I believe that could be the reason i was rejected last year, i applied as a frosh for Mendoza, and then finished my frosh of college on the route that it seemed i was prepared for the business school, except i applied to PLS program - regardless, the school looks down upon individuals transferring into the ND and spending a year in one program only to then transfer into the Business or Architecture school.

Believe me that ND is where i want to be also... I am anticipating being reject again this semester, even though i have a 4.0... again, but if i don't get in - i am planning on a Economics and PoliSci major and a minor in Business or Biochemistry. But then For law school i plan on ND for a JD/MBA... yet if i by some chance get into Harvard for that i will jsut have to stick true to my Irish roots.

I wish you the best of luck with it all. You still ahve 2 yrs of HS left... enjoy it now, you wont be able to again.

Keep working hard. The junior year is really were you have to push yourself. I think as long as you can keep up the great work you are in for sure.

You have gotten great advice from the other posters. I would only add that you should speak to the counselors at your high school. Given the size and location of your school, it is likely to generate a fair number of applicants to ND each year, and the counselors should be able to give you some idea of how you rank in comparison with those who were admitted (or waitlisted, or rejected).

I would have to agree, I have gotten amazing advice. One thing I would like to point out is that my counselor is not the sharpest tool in the shed. I know there are other counselors that are notorious for fulfilling their role in the education system by "guiding" us. She is not the best. She tells me I shouldn't choose Notre Dame because South Bend is a pain in the winter, hahaha. Either way, she will be the one writing letters of recommendation so I have to just nod politely and keep my mouth shut. Counselors at my school can give us transcripts of the students admitted and rejected by the college we're interested in. I'm pretty freaked out right now, I have a B in chemistry and english :o . My unweighted hasn't always been in the 3.8-3.9 range that I used to have. It has been between 3.6 and 3.8. Do you guys think that would be okay?

The Holy Cross in South Bend was founded in just 1966. The name of the College was changed from Holy Cross Junior College to Holy Cross College in 1990. It is not ranked on US News.

The nationally ranked (#35 US News) College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts was founded in 1843, one year after Notre Dame.

who*.........

Oh, I didn't know there was a loophole for transferring into the B-school. If I don't get in first crack, my dream is not dead, like I thought.

Edit: But how hard is it to do an inter transfer? Do you need like a 3.5 for 1 year at ND, or do you need like a 3.8+, and they don't take very many kids?

I don't know the answer to your question, sorry, maybe someone else can help. Does anyone know if the Summer Scholars for the summer of 2009 has been posted yet? I'm really in a pickle.

So, I just got in, and now have the authority to give you legit feedback. Just do well on your SATs and keep your grades up, don't get into trouble, and apply EA. Honestly, there were a LOT of flaws with my application I was unhappy about, and they still let me in. Applying EA let them know I could get my stuff together promptly, so I was on the ball, and I did everything they asked for, even the "optional" things.
As for Holy Cross, my advice is this-If by some fluke you can't get into ND (but I personally believe you can) don't throw away your college years on a junior college just so you can try to transfer. Go to your second choice school and then try to transfer. Or not. You may come to find you're really happy at whatever school you end up at.

The University admits transfer students with the stipulation that they understand that at no point in their undergraduate career at the University can they transfer into nor declare a dual degree in the Mendoza College of Business. I assume the same holds true for the College of Architecture but the University articulates this clearly only for the Mendoza College.

I am incredulous that they could/would enforce such a thing. The deans at each college are very accommodating and making the case for your transfer, I would speculate, might not be the most difficult thing to do. Just understand that the University is well aware of this so-called 'loophole' and they are attempting, at least, to amend it.

okay so I got my pSAT score back the other day and I was disappointed. I got a 160 which I guess would be a 1,600? Can anyone tell me how bad this is for a sophomore or should I be worried? I would like to point out that I didn't take it too seriously; I filled in a lot of random answers when I ran out of time. We did have a VERY small amount of time to take it.

you are a sophomore. chill. go do well in school, and next year around this time... start worrying about college

on the first page of this thread you were asking which ECs you should cut out or whatever.... no no no no no. Do what you love to do... dont do what you will think will look good on a resume... youre in high school only once. At the end of the day who cares what the adcom thought of what you did in high school. Go out and do what you love to do... if thats computer programming.... then by golly G, do it.

If your mind is set on going to ND, and you dont end up getting in...... dont go to Holy Cross if you want to transfer. Talk to mike (irish####) about this.... in a year! Go have fun

You should make sure to have stellar essays and apply to ND EA when you're a senior. I did one "optional" short essay--the question of why I wanted to come to ND. I basically wrote (and named by name) the activities that ND had that matched what I have been doing in high school and how I want to continue with these activities in college.

Your PSAT score isn't bad and doesn't really matter as a sophomore. Buy a few study books or take a class and it will make a world of difference come junior year. I had a similar score sophomore year and ended up being a national merit semifinalist. The key is to do a little work studying. :)

I have a couple of books already. The stack of books seem pretty intimidating at first glance. I really need to suck it up and read them. I'll worry about that later. Does anyone have any recommendations on courses to take over the summer at Notre Dame? They all look really interesting, I just want to know which ones are considered to be at the top of the intriguing scale.

Don't worry, I'm a sophomore in highschool too and my dream is to go to Notre Dame. You have everything going for you right now. By the looks of yours compared to mine, your way ahead of the game.

oh and what do you mean by the Summer Scholars? How can you get into that?
