It looks like Pitt changed business honors for incoming freshman. You now have to be admitted to the regular honors program too. When S20 applied, business honors was separate. He didn’t want to live up on the hill. He was happy just for business honors.
I’m glad your son has his in-state options high on his list. Honestly, I don’t think he could do much better for undergrad business. Remind him that it won’t be HS 2.0. Good luck.
I am pretty sure he will get into UNC. Direct guaranteed admission to Kenan Flagler is very hard as a freshman. This year roughly 30% sophomores got in. Not sure how many juniors got in but remember that many kids do not get into KF and should have a plan B.
NC Sate is a lot easier to get into. Their average reported scores are boosted big time by the engineering department.
I 100% agree! Business at UNC is extremely competitive!!
Good thing he is very flexible with the idea of exploring other options. He says he would be equally happy majoring in Statistics , Economy or even Industrial Engineering (if he goes to a school where is offered) and a few years down the road, doing an MBA.
Wanted to come back and update this thread. Thanks again everyone for your comments and suggestions, They have been very helpful to us!
As of now, son has heard from 6 schools and have been accepted to all of them:
University of Pittsburgh (80k scholarship)
Baylor University (Invited for Scholarship round)
Clemson University (Offered scholarship but they won’t be able to say a number until March)
University of Georgia (82k scholarship)
Notre Dame University (Not expecting any merit help, as we are aware it’s very limited and competitive)
Waiting to hear from the other 6.
Again, thank you all!
After doing some research he ended not applying to Washington and Lee. He is a sports fan and thought the school wouldnt checkmark that box.
And yes, you’re right! It’s University of Notre Dame !
—Another update : He just received the One UGA scholarship for $82,000
So the full OOS waiver. Awesome. UGA is up and coming.
Have you been ? Similar to Va Tech, the campus is enormous. However, if he gets into Honors (at time of admission or later like my daughter), the Honors dorm is right there on the campus.
Yes, we’ve been to UGA a couple of times. Although we are in NC, we are only 2 hours drive from Athens. And yes, the scholarship he got is for a full waiver plus 1,500 per year.
Thank you again!
It is late Jan, but Park Scholarship semifinalists received early acceptance to the school and the program of their choice on 12/20. They do that every year to approx 300-350 students.
Nice options. UGA and Ohio State are very large. I think UGA has around 8k business undergrads. Something to consider if he wants something more personal.
No BBA Scholar notification . Direct admit only, Distinguished Scholarship and invitation to compete for Presidential .
Also received admission to Villanova Business school. Moved to next rounds for Park and Morehead scholarships.
Should hear from UNC and GTech by 1/31. UF is not out until late Feb. A little nervous about Chapel Hill but very grateful for being admitted to all the other schools on his list and for the scholarships offered.
Happy to share son was accepted today to UNC Chapel Hill- Honors & 40k total merit scholarship!
Again, thank you all for your comments and advice! I didnt go to school here in the States , so the help found on these forum has been a very important part on this journey. I will come back with future updates!
