Do I have a shot at ED at Duke? It’s my dream school!
Whats your unweighted GPA
Whats your estimated class rank?
What state are you from?
How many others from your school will apply ED?
What majors of interest will you list (3):
Are you good enough to get recruited by the Duke Swimming or Tennis coach?
Unweighted right now: 3.9
Class rank: School does not rank, but definitely top 10%
State: IL
How many others: I don’t know
Major: Pre-Med
Sports: Not good enough for D1 athletics
I think you do have a shot. In the ED round, Duke generally goes for the kids who will normally be picked off by HYPS. So if you’re in the top 10% thats pretty good, but they will try for the top 1-2% kids in ED.
Also you will be competing against hundreds of other potential pre-meds. The only other weakness I see is the ECs. They are solid, but nothing that will wow them. You’ll probably get rated a 2 or 3 out of 5 for the ECs. Over the next year, work on getting state-wide or national recognition. If you can get your EC score to 4 or 5, this will greatly increase your chances.
And now to your ACT score. This is definitely a good score. But keep in mind that a 33 is right at the 50th percentile for Trinity. As an unhooked applicant, you really should strive for a score above the 75th percentile. But the score is not so low that it will keep you out of Duke.
