In the online version CommonApp's Arts Supplement, instead of having you submit stuff straight to the app, some schools ask you to provide a website where they can access all of your work. So, I created a website (though I do still have to add some stuff to it, such as voice, piano, and songwriting samples and more fine art, along with proper descriptions and titles for everything). However, I have absolutely no idea what these web pages are usually like, so it would mean a lot if you could check this out and see if I'm at least going in the right direction! Thank you!

Art supplement is for ONE particular talent you have. As an example, if you are a very good dancer, you may want to film a solo and put it up on Youtube. If you are close to being a professional photographer, you may want to put your work on a website. Some schools are even telling applicants that unless they are exceptional, do not bother to send in an art supplement.

Thanks oldfort, but in this particular case you were asked to check a box for EVERYTHING you wish to submit (choices were listed very specifically), and then include those on the web page - there is no set limit for the number of areas you are allowed to cover.
Just out of interest - do you not view me as being “exceptional” enough to send in a supplement? I’m not sure if you checked out the website and was referring to me, or if that was just a general statement :)

I did check it out. I am not an expert when it comes to visual art, so I can’t comment. But when they say exceptional they mean award winning, or close to professional. My kid submitted a dance video. She has been dancing since 3 and now dances 15 hrs/week. She was admitted to some very well known dance programs. On the other hand, she also plays violin and piano, and is a very good photographer, but didn’t submit those work because they weren’t good enough.

That’s great to hear, I’m happy for her! However, what I have heard is that as long as you feel that an Arts Supplement would be a positive add to your application, you should definitely submit it.

Then you should submit it.

“Tribute to Brian Andreas” was my favorite. It’s great! As long as this is what the college suggested, go ahead and send it. They can selectively choose what they wish to look at. You don’t have to be an internationally-recognized artist to send a supplement. If you are truly passionate about it, let them see that.

Some parts of it were better than others, in my opinion, but art is really subjective, so who knows how the adcoms will view it?

Good luck!

I think it’s alright to submit, but you’re definitely going to want more material in each category. Like if you don’t have at least 8-12 pieces for art, I wouldn’t really bother. A site with just 3-4 pieces in each category just makes it seem like you’re not truly passionate about any of them, and that you’re just sticking things in to impress.

Yeah, I do agree with the above poster when it comes to that. I’d definitely add in a few more to fill out all the categories. Except for dance/music, because usually just one video is acceptable for arts supplements. But for the artwork, there should be more.

Thanks everyone!
I completely agree Languidness - as I mentioned, the site is still in progress and I will definitely be putting up more artwork soon.
If anyone has any comments on what they especially like, or on the other hand what I should perhaps leave out, please let me know - born2dance94, I’d be more than happy to hear which areas/pieces of art you weren’t as pleased with! Constructive criticism is always appreciated :)

Well I really enjoyed both fine art pieces, but you should definitely add more. I really liked the body percussion video. I personally didn’t think “Real Life” was the strongest piece (it wasn’t bad, I just thought it weaker than some of the other pieces), but again it is subjective so the adcoms might like it a lot. Also, the bottom of page 6 of the sketchbook wasn’t my favorite, but it is a unique medium, so I liked that factor of it.

Thanks for the feedback born2dance94, really appreciate it!
