Roscoe: I think your son's highly regarded high school will mean his GPR will be seen in context with his good SAT scores. He is certainly College Ready with the stiff competition he has already lived with in high school. Go ahead and apply to his favorite Reaches as long as they are not the same 2 the top ten percent in his region target. But his SAT IIs look to me more like a kid who didn't do the practice exams (same thing happened to many of my S's brightest buddies who glanced but did not prep). Although this is just an impression that may come across. Maybe he is not the kind of guy who wants to sweat out testing but is there another October SATII he could try? Those practice books are short and sweet and not tricky. If you spend the two hours on reading them and taking the test in the back.
Skidmore? Leehigh? Colby? (sorry..I like Colby..I know it is not his profile choice but it is outdoorsy and freshair oriented.)

Roscoe, on the grade conversion -- does the guidance office have a conversion chart that they either use or provide to colleges upon request. My son's school is also on the 0-100 scale, and when I raised the question with the GC, she provided an official conversion scale that is used when a college specifically asks for the grades on a 4.0 scale.

Definitely no conversion chart. I asked.

Hi Roscoe,
Although I am late to this conversation, I also wanted to mention Indiana. My nephew (NYC suburb) started there last year and loves it. Good business school, rah rah sports, think it fits your 3 hour plane flight definition. Good luck. Your S has certainly had a great high school career, unweighted GPA be d*mned!

Roscoe, I don't believe your son's reaches are pure lottery ticket. Don't know your highschool but around here there are kids with your son's profile from highly competitive high schools that have gotten into those reaches. THere are some who have not as well, but those who did get in were not "hooked" students. With OOS colleges , it is wise to get the apps in early. Last year I saw kids rejected in January with higher stats than those who got their apps in by November for UMich.

Link to profile of students admitted to University of Delaware Honors Program. Older S graduated in 2004 and loved it. Younger S will be applying this Fall. HTH rablaw and Roscoe.
