Yes. I know there are a lot of reaches.

Princeton SCEA: Mid reach

UMich: In
UVA: Match

Discover Swarthmore? What is your ethnicity?

Academically, this list is random. What do you want to study?

Okay, I won’t chance you. Bye.

I plan on being a physics major with a minor/certificate in Econ or finance. And also, I am Asian- Indian in origin, but was born in America, so there’s an anti-hook. A key part of what I wanted was a school with a self-contained campus, within (or close to) an area where there are opportunities for internships etc. Williams is rather different, but I really liked the school when I visited.

The state schools, outside of UMass, are OOS, but since I will likely not receive financial aid, they will still be cheaper than a private, and offer a “total” college experience if I cannot get into one of the more rigorously academic schools.

Discover Swarthmore is a 3 day program hosted by Swarthmore College for minority students, including students of Asian origin. As it is a fully funded program, to get into it you need to submit an application w/ test scores and essays, and only 1/3ish get accepted into it. It is supposed to give you great context to write the Swarthmore supplement and show your commitment to the school. Elsewhere on CC it has been told (no facts to back it up) that after the program, those in it have a ~60% chance of acceptance into the college.

@logicx24
Rats… I knew this would happen, as CC is often a very literal place.

Cornell  chance me?

Bump 10 Char!

no chance whatsoever. have fun at community college.

Thanks for the honesty! Will I see you there? XD

bump 10char

Penn-Low/Mid reach
Stanford-Mid/High reach
UMich- High Match
UVA- High match

You have awesome test scores and great grades. Your internships look great as well.
Chance me back?

Most kids at my school with straight As and near perfect SAT scores (2360+) get rejected even by cornell… but that’s because their ECs are weak. You’re ECs seem average and maybe even below average, so princeton is definitely a reach for you.

Why don’t you apply to Duke as well? It is similar to Princeton but slightly easier to get admitted to. I think you should apply to all of the USNWR Top 20 schools and see which ones you get into. Some might give you good FA aid awards.

Ok, thanks for the advice goldenboy, I have also been considering Duke, but the ‘frat boy’ vibe turned me off a little.

@devrybound: Thanks for your honesty about my extracurriculars. I had previously thought my EC’s were a little above average, but not great since I have shown athletic ability in two sports that take a lot of time, have leadership in various clubs and in sports, and have some cool internships. I just feel that I don’t have any “icing on the cake” like ISEF or MOP medals. And in the context of my school, we send about 8-10 to ivy/equivalent a year and my class is the strongest one in recent history.

No need to worry there, UVA is even frattier and Penn/Cornell have a similar amount of participation in Greek Life. At any rate, all of the schools you are applying to besides your safeties are serious academic schools so you"ll find that the majority of students care more about learning than partying.

Extra curriculars are pretty weak. Internships are good, but other wise i think they are below average.

Princeton SCEA (dream) - High Reach
Cornell - High Reach
CMU - mid Reach
Caltech - High Reach
Brown - High reach
UMass Amherst Honors - Safety
Northwestern - Mid reach
Rice - mid reach
Williams - high reach

Penn - high reach
Stanford - high reach
UMich - match
UVA - high match/low reach

Bump! 10 Char

I also didn’t mention some other EC’s due to space issues. I also am in a professional (Audition only) music group with performances all over the state. This EC is also combined w/ 3 years of voice lessons. And also, Business Club is a pretty meaningful EC as we have raised over 10,000 dollars through fundraisers and investing fundraising money.
