Chance me? Will chance back.

I'm not sure how this works exactly, but ill put some stats.

Asian Male
Junior
Attending a top public school in VA

GPA UW: 3.9
GPA Weighted: 4.38

SAT: 2350 (750 CR), 1st and only sitting
PSAT: 225
Did not take ACT.

SAT II: Chem(800), Math(800), Bio(780)

AP's: Bio(5), Chem(5), BC Calc(5), Chinese(5), Environmental Sci(5), Physics C Mech(5), Physics C E&M(5), US History(5), and I am not going to report my Music Theory score (will this hurt my chances?)

EC's:
Biology Olympiad club 4 years, I will be co-captain next year. USABO semis x2, Toronto Competition tied for 3rd place (out of 4000+)
Key club 4 years, Treasurer
Bioengineering projects for future club, submitted to ExploraVision competition and got Honorable mention (top 300ish out of 4000+ i believe)
XC/Track, did sophomore yr but not this yr due to schedule conflicts..hoping to do them next yr
Tutoring Middle/Elementary School Children, 2 years and around 20 hours per year
NIH Internship 2 years (hoping i can produce a worthy project but i probably won't be able to)
AIME qualifier 1x
National merit semifinalist (hopefully finalist)
InvenTeam Excite Award (MIT-sponsored competition)
NHS

School's I am thinking about:
Harvard?
Princeton (dream school)
MIT
UVA
UChicago
Stanford
Columbia or Brown?
VTech

My counselor said: ivies were a reach as usual, UVA is a safety, I should look into schools like Rice, and that MIT early would be a good choice (research from NIH). The thing is, princeton is my dream school but I highly doubt i'd get in SCEA.

I'll chance back whenever i get the chance. 'm kinda new to the whole chancing process (i.e what carries the most weight, etc) but i'll figure it out.

Thanks for any feedback!

I think you have a shot of Princeton, your scores and GPA are great. That being said you are asian, which will hurt your chances. The biggest issue I see is that you have very little community service and leadership. Go accumulate community service hours (you should have at the very least 100). Go for Princeton, but it is a reach (but it is also a reach for every other person in the world since it is an ivy).

Excellent stats, top-notch ECs. The only thing that hurts your chances is that you’re an ORM. Have a stand-out essay, good recs, and you’ve got as good of a chance at any competitive applicant. Quoting your counselor, Ivies are always reaches, and their admissions can be somewhat random.
You should have some more safeties at hand. A lot of schools you’re applying to are Ivies or strong names; you never know what could happen.
You chances at Princeton are good overall. Good luck!

You never know with essays and stuff. But if you wrote a good essay, I think you’d have a great shot at getting into any of these schools! Sorry if this isn’t good. I’m new here as well.

Chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1364566-ivy-league-ivy-league-like-college-chances-please-read.html</a></p>

I think you have amazing chances anywhere. Just make sure in your essays that you don’t seem like a robot. Your ECs and grades and everything are absolutely stellar!

Your SAT scores are phenomenal but you need to get your GPA up. My brother got a 2350 on his SAT and had a 4.9 but still didn’t get into Ivy Leagues. You need to have the whole package.

Also you really need more leadership positions.

Harvard - high reach
Princeton (dream school) - high reach
MIT - high reach
UVA - you’ll get in
UChicago - low reach
Stanford - high reach
Columbia or Brown - low reach
VTech - you’ll get in

Unfortunately Ivy Leagues are just incredibly competitive. Your scores are great but you just need to have everything, the ‘whole package’. Just write good essays/get good recommendations and you have a shot.

When’d you get your semifinalist letter for national merit? I didn’t think they had come out yet - I got the ‘commended student’ letter and am curious if I got further.

@ayerfair

I didn’t mention this, but the gpa weighted isn’t based on a 5.0 scale. Our school doesn’t do class rank but I know the highest gpa in the class is around 4.51 or so (lot’s of ap classes and all A’s). Would my gpa still be low on that scale?

also I think I just got the commended student, my bad. All i remember is that I sent my score to two colleges (princeton, mit), but the semis/finals comes in sept/feb according to the NMS website.

bump…

Harvard - High Match
Princeton - High Match
MIT - Match
UVA - In
UChicago - Low Match
Stanford - High Match

Your GPA, and scores are excellent. Again, this is not all that matters. Work this senior year to differentiate yourself. Take up more community service and leadership to make yourself stand out, maybe start a club. Princeton isn’t the HARDEST Ivy League but its definitely still going to be a high reach. Like everyone else said, work hard on that essay and those ECs and you will have a shot. Anyways, UChicago is a school you could get into and its really wonderful. What beats the windy city? Senior to senior, good luck!!

Your test scores are definitely on the higher end of all those schools. AP Scores look good too, I don’t think no reporting the Music Theory score will hurt (did you get below a 3?). EC’s look pretty good, definitely good but they seem to be predictable for Asian applicants. Being an ORM will hurt you a bit, but looking at your application holistically will allow for you to overcome that setback easily. Just put some thought into your essays and I’m sure you’ll get into at least one of your reaches.

Chance back please!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1363953-chance-me-please.html</a></p>

You’re in great shape for UVA and Vtech for sure. The others will be competitive. I really can’t say too much but your extracurriculars are excellent, along with your stats. To me, the deciding factor will be your essays. good luck!

You have a good chance for Princeton! Your scores and GPA are promising, but, as an Asian, make sure to find a way to be unique! Also, make sure that your EC’s relate to your major so you’ll seem focused. I think you have a good chance! Speaking of chance, would you chance me for Princeton? Thanks and good luck!!!
