So a couple of days ago, a classmate got offered a walk on offer pending admission to play for a really a competitive school that I also applied ED to. I wanted to know how this affects my chance at admission since he also is applying to the same college/program as me. The key difference is that he is a student athlete and i’ve stayed on the academic path
It doesn’t. Walk ons (by definition no coach support) get no special preference through admissions.
Every school is different. This might be a division II or division III school that doesn’t have the recruitment and scholarship prowess as a D1 school. Athletes are in a different admissions category, so he’s not competing with you for admissions.
Depends on the situation…is this DI, II or III? Is the classmate also applying ED?
@cinnamon1212 that is not a true statement. A walk-on gets no financial support. They can still get support in admissions.
It appears that the other student is being offered a roster spot. That would put them in the preferred walk-on category. As others have said, don’t worry about that person. They will be in a different pool. That spot isn’t really available to you. Schools don’t have quotas from High Schools.
It’s a division 1 school, and I believe he is ED’ing too. Is there any sort of admissions boost because of this?
