GPA: 4.0 (almost certain)
SAT 2: Biology M-710
I'll probably take 3 more; math IC, Chem and US History next year, and probably two or three more during the senior year.
AP: Euro-3 : (

I HAVENT TAKEN THE SAT YET SO CAN ANYONE GIVE ME AN IDEA OF WHAT A GOOD SCORE WOULD BE? I ALSO TAKE AP EURO THIS YEAR AND IM GOING TO TAKE AP US NEXT YEAR, AND PROBABLY 6 MORE APS.

To the best of my knowledge, Columbia doesn't provide a space for you to list your AP exam scores.

o really? whew. i really didnt like that AP score, and i was afraid it will hurt me. so they dont really care about AP scores huh? well i heard that somewhere b4, but wutever. what do u think i should improve on, and what do u think is a good SAT score for me? thx for ur help!

bump...........

You want to feel as safe as possible when applying. The last thing you want is to send in your application and be like, oh no, I think my SAT scores are just not good enough. . . So what you want to do is take the test and practice it until you get as high as you can by the time November of senior year comes around. Aim for 2300+. Maybe you'll get there, maybe you won't. But you're only a sophomore, so why would you ever want to aim for just "a good SAT score" for you. . . Seriously, you want to aim at 2400 as a good score for you. What's the point of goals if they aren't high? Right now, you have only two problems, and neither one has to do with your resume above. The first is your focus on getting our opinions on your chances, and the second is your age. So go get older. And also, if you're principal cellist in this and that, and you have two more years to go, maybe you could go out and find some challenges for yourself. . . maybe go find yourself last stand somewhere? Maybe summer after next year you can try to go to one of the major summer camps, too?

thx jono for taking the time to give me ur advice. yea ill be a junior next year, and maybe it's too early to be asking for opinions now. 2300+? wow that will be really hard for me. i was gunna aim for at least 2200 or more. but of course ill try for better. and what did u mean last stand? and major summer camps? well next summer, i plan to apply to stonybrook for research in intel. yea im gunna try to be a semifinalist at least for intel, and im really determined to achieve that. thx for ur advice again

You know how above you wrote several times things like second chair, principal, bla bla on cello? What I mean is why don't you go find something more challenging, so that you're not sitting in the best chairs any more? And by major summer camps I was talking about either music or academics. It seems you're going for an academic thing next summer. Why are you really determined to be a semifinalist? Just be sure that whatever you do next summer is something you're actually interested in. What excites you, then, would be the next question.

o i see... well i guess for intel, i want to earn recognition, and also, i love science. so that's why im interested in the summer program next summer. and also, im not sure why i would want to find something more challenging when im already top in something. well yea i guess it would be better experience. scratch what i said before. i guess it IS a good idea to find something more challenging lol. well for cello, i plan to make all eastern. it's gunna be hard, but im gunna try. so anyway, thx for ur advice! also, do u have any other advices for me? on my chances SO FAR. i know i havent taken the SAT yet. i really appreciate ur help~!

ping-pong club and chess club. . . you can leave those off your application. If there are other clubs with more weight that interest you, maybe do those.

Everything you do is local, is that right? So I agree with you, things like all-Eastern would be good for you.
