<p>Do you guys have exams BEFORE or AFTER the winter break? What is the random two weeks of early-mid January for? Wouldn't it suck if you had to take your exams after the break and therefore have to study for a good portion of the break?</p>

<p>Exams are before the holidays.
That two weeks is probably the J Term.
Reading days are study days before exams in college (not just at UVa). There are no classes. The libraries are packed.</p>
<p>Oh! This makes a lot more sense. Are you allowed to “skip” the J term if you want to (for example, in order to take an extended trip to visit relatives in distant locations)?
And also, would economics be considered a “humanities” course at UVA? Thanks.</p>
