The Mission Statement for Colgate University sets forth 13 Goals for a Colgate Education. One goal for Colgate students is listed as: Be engaged citizens and strive for a just society: embrace the responsibilities to local, national, and global communities; use their influence for the benefit of others. Please describe how you would embrace this goal as a Colgate student.
This is a challenge for you, an opportunity to describe what you believe and what you aim to achieve as a Colgate student and beyond. Therefore it’s a personal challenge and not a group project. So my advice is to step back, reflect, and then get to work - as will all the other applicants. Anything manufactured will be viewed as such by the admissions staff.
Can anyone please explain further what is the different between embrace the goal as yourself and ‘embrace he goal as a Colgate student’ because I find it the most tricky part.
What is special about Colgate students that make the way you achieving the goal different as a Colgate student?
Thanks in advance
I’m quite struggling with this supplement too TvT
I could be wrong, but I don’t think the emphasis here is on how you would do it as a Colgate student vs. your unique self. I think they are saying, when you attend Colgate, you’re a representation of the school and they want to be proud of you. Wherever you go around the Globe, people will identify you as a Colgate student. What leadership traits do you bring to the matter? If you want to look at it the way you are, you could see what programs/clubs/initiatves the college has in social justice, and greater good that are local, and global and say how you would contribute to those, which ones appeal to you and why and how you will leverage them to accomplish your own goals.
