i do a lot of community service, or at least are planning too like walk a thons, and community talent shows. But they are still being planned and we’re still in the brainstorm period. But, do you think it would help?

I may be raising an entirely separate issue here because we are looking at bs for my D to enter in 2010 for 10th grade. No matter, can someone please tell me what IS IT about both NMH and Loomis that sets them apart. Are they “more progressive,” nurturing, less academically challenging than say Taft, Choate, Milton, all schools we’re also considering. And all ARE, of course, different. How is NMS perceived? My D really likes the idea of trying something different from the NYC girls’ school she first attended prior to her current attendance at a junior bs. D recently received a 98 on her SSATs but, while she is a high achiever, she would prefer a less stressful environment although one that is also academically competitive. She is an honors/ high honors student with plenty of extracurriculars, a peer mediator, plays soccer, lax and rides and fences, and is also a talented artist. THIS PROCESS is utterly individual, but I do want to make sure that should she go to say, NMH or Loomis, she will not be eliminating her potential to attend an outstanding college. Phew!!!

it looks like you have done a lot of community service! you might wanna put some emphasis on that. And definitely study more for your SSATs. I’m also applying this fall, and from what I heard, interviews are REALLY important. You might wanna work on that. I just posted a thread about my chances? it would be really cool if you could check it out and let me know what you think!

I finally got my SSAT score and it is bad. I got a 69 percentile.

Do the school look at Your SSAT Score or the estimated national percentile?

Rubricon, the difference between Loomis and NMH is staggering. Loomis is a preppy day-school in a suburban, upper middle class white neighborhood. NMH is primarily a boarding school in the beautiful Connecticut River valley, full of diversity and down to earth students. Feel free to ask anything else.

How far away from the school’s average ssat score is too far?
