ASSIGNMENT: IS CREATIVITY NEEDED MORE THAN EVER IN THE WORLD TODAY?

Creativity is what drives a person insane, keeping him or her from losing it at the same time. It crosses the world’s realms; detaching people form their former lives. But today, creativity id viewed as a subtle form of expression. It is known to defy the laws of pragmatic thinking. But for me, it’s the other way around. I think that pragmatic thinking is a hindrance to creativity. And as Pablo Picasso said, “the sole enemy of creativity is good sense.”

Reality, however harsh it may be, is essential for living. If a person can’t face reality, he or she isn’t courageous enough to face the arduous path of life. I completely agree with this notion. But people sometimes forget that there is nothing wrong in fulfilling life’s journey with a mix of sparkle and imagination.

The difference between facing reality and being practical is hard to find. Practicality is an inborn trait whereas reality, we all have to face that, some or the other day, in our lives. But reality shouldn’t be seen as an enemy of creativity or imagination. Reality and imagination truly support each other. A person can be practical and not creative, but a person can’t be necessarily creative and unwilling to face reality.
Id like to quote the example of Charles dickens, a pioneer in the field of writing. What is it about his book that makes almost everyone snivel from the bottom of their heart? It is his perception, or way of perceiving reality. His books include factual descriptions of his life. like in the case of DAVID COPPERFIELD, the child is left alone as his mother marries another man who is pugnacious and imperious. These incidents actually took place in his life. Another book, LITTLE DORRIT is actually based upon his childhood. These books offer a range of dickens’ childhood experiences that reflect his journey of life, but in a covert manner.

Mostly, authors write stories and poems based upon their actual experiences. But very few people know that the feelings portrayed in the books of these authors are actually testaments to what they had to face, before they made their way into the imaginative world of books, which readily accepted them.

In conclusion, I regard creativity to be one of the most needed things today. It is needed in order to change people’s way of thinking towards life and experiences. It is needed to form a coalition between reality and creativity. It may lessen the burden of reality on some people, but will never blindfold them towards life.
