Please grade my SAT essay

First of all, is it ok to write the SAT essay in british english spelling?
Please grade the following essay.

Assignment: What is your view of the claim that the opinion of majority is not always right? In an essay, support your position by discussing an example (or examples), from literature, the arts, science and technology, history, current events, or your own personal experience or observation.
ESSAY:

I think that the view of the majority is usually right. Majority view represents the needs and demands of most people and is therefore more essential to be addressed. Majority view is also more likely to convince the authority department, be it the government or even the school administrative department to look into their matters, than can an individual’s view. Also solving individual problems and granting individual demands is not always practical especially in the case of a nation being ruled by a democratic government.

Let us take the example of british rule in India. When individual farmers and labourers complained or worked against the british rulers, they were severely punished. But as years passed by, people from different parts of the country united to fight against the british. People formed groups, trade unions, and political associations and even boycotted british goods. They launched a fully fledged civil disobedience movement which was successful in thwarting the british opposition only because of mass participation. Similarly, in Europe too, workers formed trade unions and associations to fight against monarchy and oppressive labour laws. In all such cases, people started opposition at an individual level but all such attempts failed. It was only when large number of people united to make a difference did they succeed in achieving their goals.

Now let us consider an incident which occurred in my school. One of my friends was wrongly accused of something he did not do. He was going to be suspended from school. But my classmates and I came together and filed a plea for his innocence. This convinced the school authorities to cancel his suspension and he was vindicated. But this would not have been possible if only a handful of people had claimed his innocence. Majority opinion shows more credibility than an individual opinion.

All important historical turn of events was due to mass participation. The world is big place and it is ever growing. If we have to make a mark then we have to do in large numbers. Majority claims leads to betterment of the community rather than fulfilling individual and possibly selfish goals. Thus majority opinion is more likely to be right than an individual opinion.

Since the graders are from the US, I would recommend you stick to American English rather than British English.

I would give your essay a 6 out of 12. It’s not very persuasive. Take, for example, your very first sentence:

“I think that the view of the majority is usually right.”

There are two major problems: First, you are giving your own, subjective opinion. Think of it this way - Why does the reader care what YOU believe? You are not being authoritative. Secondly, you shouldn’t THINK that the majority is right, you should KNOW the majority is right.

Additionally, the fact that you claim that the majority is right MOST of the team greatly weakens your argument. The idea behind the SAT essay is to persuade the read to one side of the cause, as fully as possible. You are doing yourself a disservice if you aren’t fully supportive of one side.

Here is an alternative sentence that you can use as a thesis - one that claims a truth that can’t be interpreted as not 100% sure.

It is incontrovertibly true that the majority is always right.

That’s about as direct and one-sided as one can put, and that’s what you should be doing.

Although that’s the gist of what you truly need to work on, also work on transitions between paragraphs. Starting each paragraph with “Let us…” shows a lack of variety.
