PLEASE HELP--ANY THOUGHTS GREATLY APPRECIATED! APPLYING TO STATE COLLEGES

Chico state is my top choice right now, but I'm not sure if I'll have a chance of getting in. I'd really appreciate some insight:

My overall GPA from 10-11 grade is a 3.14. The only thing is, I read they require 3 years of math. However I got a D in geometry sophomore year. I can't make it up because now my high school doesn't even have a geometry class because the common core standards changed or something, who knows.
Anyway I got an A in algebra 1 freshman year both semesters, an A in algebra 2 junior year, and right now I'm taking statistics. Will that D in geometry affect my chances of getting in, or do you think they will look past it since I'm taking another year of math? I'm really scared.

Anyway,

Second Semester Sophomore Grades:
Spanish 2: C
Geometry: D
Biology: C
Honors world studies: B
Honors english: B

I can't remember all my first semester sophomore grades but they were pretty similar to my second semester grades, except I had a D in biology and a B in geometry

First Semester Junior Grades:
English: A
Algebra 2: D
US History: C
IB Theory of Knowledge: C
Chemistry: D
Graphic Design: A

Second Semester Junior Grades:
English: A
Algebra 2: A
US History: A
IB Theory of Knowledge: A
Physics: A+
Graphic Design: A

The weird thing about junior year is that I took chemistry the first semester and it just didn't click, I got a D. So I dropped it and tried physics instead, and loved it, ended up with 106% in the class. In 9th grade, I took Integrated Earth Science and that isn't an A-G approved course or something like that? I need 2 years of science for college, so that horrible semester of chemistry and semester of physics would have to count for one year. And I don't know if the colleges I'm applying to would be very happy about that.

Right now I'm taking:
Statistics
US Gov/Economics
Graphic Design 2
Work Experience
IB English Year 2 (usually you're supposed to take IB English year 1 junior year, but I was in normal english. Anyway I did really well in english that year, I finished with a 97. The IB English teacher emailed me and asked if I wanted to take IB English year 2 senior year, even though you're normally required to take IB English year 1 junior year. I said yes)

I pulled myself together junior year 2nd semester and got a 4.1, but all the other semesters I really slacked off. Also I haven't taken the SAT yet but I will take it on October 11.

My number one choice college is Chico.
I'll also be applying to san francisco state.
I'd be stoked to get into long beach state or san diego state but I doubt that would be possible.
If there are any other state colleges in cali you think I'd get into, please let me know.

But just wondering, what are my chances for getting in if I get decent test scores on my SAT? I know my gpa isn't that bad (3.14), I'm just worried about that D in geometry.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated. Thank you!

You need to calculate your CSU GPA: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
Good news is that the average GPA for Chico State is a 3.27. Bad news is that if you do not meet the a-g requirements, you will not get into any Cal State. A D in any a-g required classes will not count, so where is your 3 years of math and 2 years of science coming from?? You have to pass 6 semesters of Math and 4 semesters of Science to eligible.
So I am trying to understand: you have 1 year of Math in Freshman year, 1/2 year passing Math Sophomore year, 1/2 year of Math Junior year and Stats senior year so hopefully you have 3 years of Math???
For Science, what Science did you have Freshman year? 1/2 year Bio passing Sophomore year, 1/2 year passing Physics Junior year and where is your last year of science? Have you talked to your counselor?? I really think you do not meet the a-g requirements especially for science. Since you have so many D’s on your record, I suggest you look into a Community college, work hard, get a good GPA and then transfer.
Take a look at the link:::

@Gumbymom My CSU GPA is 3.14!

I have algebra 1 freshman year (I got an A)
Geometry sophomore year, but I guess that doesn’t count because I got a D
Algebra 2 junior year (I got an A the second semester which validates the D I got the first semester)
And right now I’m in statistics.
So because they won’t count geometry (I got a D in it), I am technically completing my third year of math right now. Would they allow that?
I literally can’t make up geometry because my school doesn’t offer that class anymore

And for science:
I took earth science freshman year. But it isn’t a-g approved so it doesn’t count.
Biology sophomore year. Got a C the second semester, so that validates the D I received first semester
First semester of junior year I took chemistry. Got a D.
So I decided to drop chem for the second semester and instead do physics. I got an A+.
If second semester grades validate first semester grades, would that A+ I got second semester in physics validate the D i got in chem? Or would it validate the fact that I didn’t take physics the first semester? Ugh it’s confusing

Thanks for the help. Do you think I have a chance if I do good on my SAT?

Chemistry and Physics are different classes. If you had gotten and A/B or C in your second semester of Chem, you would be good but since they are both different classes, it will not count. If you do not meet the a-g requirements, then your SAT score is moot. I would check with your counselor or contact CSU Mentor to make sure you have all the requirements in place. Why spend $55/school applying and find out you are not eligible. Take a look at the common data set link for the average SAT scores for Chico State. Since you are a little below the average for GPA, you will want to be above the 50th percentile for your SAT.

We don’t have your SAT so, it is really tough to guide you with any precision. You may still have time to adjust your Sr schedule or take a course at your CC - but you have to get specific direction from someone in admissions at a CSU. Seriously, get an appointment right away. your clock is ticking.

Assuming you get your a-g situation figured out ASAP (like this week) I’d encourage you to look into some less selective CSUs. Chico is the least selective of the ones you list and they will probably be a stretch for you. The CSUs (except SLO) use an index to rank applicants. Read about it here:

<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/elig_index_calculator.asp</a></p>

Chico is looking for 3700+ CSULB, 3800 and SDSU 4100.

Using your reported 3.15 GPA, you’ll need 1200 M&R SAT for Chico, 1300 for LB and 1580 for SDSU. Given your grades, those would all be stand out scores.

You don’t say what you want to study but, look into Sonoma, Sac, Humboldt and Monterey.

Good luck.
