Hi. This is my first time posting on CC... I have tried to give pertinent information, I apologize

My son has one week to decide which engineering school to go to: University of Michigan (#6) and University of Texas (#11). He does not know which type of engineering he wants to pursue but is leaning toward ECE or ME. We live near chicago and will pay oos tuition at either school.

Criteria that is important to my son:
work hard/play hard atmosphere~wants school spirit and social life
to learn from top professors
recruitment for top internships around the country
job opportunities from top companies in his field
warm climate but not top priority

We understand both are great universities with great campuses, school spirit, etc.

He loved UTs weather, campus, social climate. He was "fine" with their engineering presentation.

He loved Michigan's engineering presentation is "ok" with UMich campus and weather. We have heard so many conflicting reports about Michigan's social life. When I say he want's a "play hard" school, I mean he wants to go out with friends on the weekends to parties, etc., nothing more.

Opinions on the following will be greatly appreciated:
1. What will my son be giving up if he chooses Texas Engineering over Michigan Engineering?
2. Do the top engineering companies from all over the country recruit from both programs (or does UT mostly get recruited in the south)?
3. What other criteria should we be considering to help him make this decision?

Many thanks in advance!
