Please Help, Counselor Recommendation Letter

This year we have a substitute counselor, as our old one quit. So I talked to the new counselor about the secondary application and she said she would fill it out. However, the counselor was hesitant about doing the letter of recommendation because she doesn't really know me well enough. I am worried about my chances if she doen't do a letter of recommendation. Please post any advice, as I am unsure of what I should do in this situation.

One option is to briefly meet with the new counselor and/or give her a brief resume so she'll know a bit about you.

Ask for an interview, as well.

If you give her a "brag sheet" (resume with all your activities/awards/interests listed), she should be able to write you a letter. At many large schools counselors do not know the kids, even if they'd been there for years. They still write those letters - it is their job.

If you can reach your old counselor and ask for a letter, it could be an option as well.

I had the exact same situation as you, since my old counselor retired.

My new counselor asked me which teachers I would like her to e-mail and receive feedback for the questions about my personality. I actually think this was an advantage because I could have more teacher input from just the two teachers that I gave my recs to. I gave my counselor a brag sheet as well.

My counselors have a gazillion kids each and barely remembered me two weeks after I spent a week with her coaching her through the Stanford rec letter thing, so.. I wouldn't worry. I don't think counselor recs offer that much insight.

But you could always ask the principal for a rec.

teacher recs count more i believe
