PLEASE HELP! Desperate senior in need of advice

Hello everyone,
After months and months of worrying and not getting sleep over my SAT score, I realize that all of this fret will not be worth it in a couple of years. However, getting accepted into a prestigious school is an extremely important matter for me, so please bear with me! I have taken the SAT twice- 2190 the first and 2170 the second :( I am debating whether or not I should spend these couple of months studying for the SAT to try to reach at least 2200. Is it really worth all the time to retake the test in October or will those 10 points (gosh darn it!) not really make a difference in the college admissions process? Not to mention the fact that I am not guaranteed a higher score. I am not shooting for Ivy Leagues here, but rather I would be very happy if I was accepted into a school like UC Berkeley or USC. Any advice would be greatly appreaciated!!! :)

In my opinion, I don’t think its worth it to take it again. A 2200 would definitely look better, but like you said, there is no guarantee that you will score higher. You may need to compensate for your score by writing a killer essay. Good luck!! Overall, great job on the SAT!!!

I think if your can push it to 2250 or above, then do it. If not, dont. A 2190 is considered in the low 2200’s range already

Thank you for your replies! I guess it won’t hurt to at least try, and I think I can get a higher score if I really dedicate myself to studying. Any outstanding SAT prep books or tips that can help me boost my score into that 2200 range?

Hitting into the mid 2200s is really tough, but it really comes down to practice now. I would recommend doing a practice set of 1 math, reading, and writing every day. Also, a lot depends on your weakness. Which section(s) is bringing you down? I have different advice for each section.

Why not try the ACT?

I feel like it is too late for me to start studying for an entirely new test… on the SAT the math section is what is really bringing me down. i do really well on CR but I don’t score as high as I would like on the essay

SAT math is more reading and tricks than actual math, so I would look up strategies to conquer the section. Usually, math is easier to improve than reading or writing. You can post some essays you’ve written on CC and have people read it and give you tips.

I didn’t study for the ACT or SAT.
Got a 2020 on the SAT on a full nights rest
Got a 35 on the ACT on 3 hours of sleep

I think its DEFINITELY worth trying out the ACT at least.

I agree that you should try the ACT. Many times students end up with a better ACT score than SAT score, although it does depend on the individual. Perhaps you could take a practice ACT and see what it’s like and where you stand before deciding.

Thank you all for your input and advice!!! I will take a practice ACT and see how it goes…
