Sorry but I am afraid the fact you haven't taken calculus in high school may work against your application especially since you plan to apply to the engineering program, considering the competition (i.e., most applicants have taken or are taking calculus when they apply).

This might make you feel a little better:

I will be attending Cornell this year, in the engineering program, and here were my scores:

Math Sat I = 690 / Math IIC = 740 / Physics = 660 / us history = 790

see - score's aren't everything! =)

KingsFan, yes scores aren't everything, but your SAT I Math score is better than his (690 vs. 630). In addition, he is still not sure whether to take Math IIC or IC due to the fact that he will only take precalc this coming semester.

Troteck, you need to be aware that Cornell Engineering assumes that students have had at least one semester of calculus (the equivalent of AP AB Calculus) before they enroll.

See http://www.math.cornell.edu/Courses/FSM/engr.html

This means that if you get accepted at Cornell, you are obligated to take first-semester calculus in some college's summer session next summer.

Is this OK with you? Or did you have other plans for next summer?

If you have any reservations about devoting next summer to calculus, you might want to think twice about applying ED.

Marian, I have no problem whatsoever taking calculus next summer if I get into cornell, as I was thinking about doing it before I knew it would be required anyway.

I am a little scared that they might no accept me BECAUSE I have not taken calculus yet, but on that page if they didn't accept people who have not had calculus they wouldn't have listed about taking it in the summer, would they?

I'm sure they take people who haven't had calculus in high school. After all, not everyone has the chance to take it.

I just wanted to make sure that you knew about their expectations. After all, we are talking about BINDING early decision. If you had plans for next summer that would prevent you from taking a summer session calculus course, you would have a problem. But it looks like you don't.

Nope I have no problem seeing how I don't do much in the summer. And like I said I was planning on taking one anyway so if it's "required" then I definitely wouldn't have aproblem see how it can only help.

But the real problem is getting in. just like it is for everyone.

I just took a practice act test and got a composite of 29, if I score similar on an actual act test, meaning 28-30 would that be better for my chances than my current sat scores, or would it be comparable.
Also the ACT can be taken at the end of october unlike the sat sicne I need to do sat2s on the october date(can my scores get there in time for ed?)

I'm going to bump this....

My main objective is ed at cornell. BTW I might be able to take ap chemistry next year....there should be enough kids if I want to do it...only thing...my schedule will be absolute hell:

honors physics
ap chemistry
honors precalc
ap english 4
ap art history
ap us history
religion (required)

Think I should try to take ap chem? Would it help my chances at all??

Also I saw the new profile of 2010...I noticed that SAT scores weren't everything for the admission last year. Think if that happens again I could get in ed for civil engineering?
