I'm soon to be a graduate with a BS in Biological Sciences but what I really wanted to do was be an Architect and it's ashamed that I didn't consider pursuing this after high school. I understand that you can apply to Architecture Grad School with any undergrad degree however, my degree did not in any way prepare me for applying. I don't have a portfolio to present and my GPA is not the hottest. BioSCi wasn't really for me. Though, I did do pretty well in Calculus and Physics but cumulatively it's not the GPA that can get me into anywhere.

Could anyone please suggests what I can do at this point in my life to get an M.Arch? What can I do to make me a candidate for applying. Should I get a second bachelor in Art? Any advices that you have would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Without a solid portfolio and outstanding grades and GRE you may not get into the top MArch programs, but there are a lot of solid programs out there that you could get into. First of all start making a portfolio. There must be some art classes at your school. If not take some at a local community college. Schools are not necessarily looking for structured art courses they want to see some results. Is there a summer architecture program that could give you some exposure?

Then start doing some research into schools. Do all require a portfolio? What are the admissions criteria? Locally UT Arlington has a solid graduate program which I suspect you could get into. Look around, I think you will find plenty of opportunities.

My problem was not having invested sufficient time in the art classes that I have taken while in college because it’s very difficult to have time for both my science courses and art courses as they both need a lot of time. I’m sure you already know that for art classes. Though I’ve managed to ace the art classes that I have taken but they are not the best work. There is a local architecture school where I live that I want to get into and it’s very competitive. I was wondering if there are any programs out there for me as a career changer to help me get into this field? How can I raise my GPA now that I already got my diploma and do something related to architecture? Please help. Thanks.
