I'm kind of stuck, I know I want to do architecture but the thing is I can't afford all the fees and tuitions so I'm going to get a degree, get a job and become more financially stable so I can go for masters in architecture for grad school.
What do you think? What is the best degree that would prepare me for M.arch
I actually got accepted for interior designing.. I'm cool with this major cause its involves designing(what interests me the most) but the thing is it doesn't prepare you for M.arch.
Maybe a mathematics degree would help but I just can't study only mathematics for 3 years I know I'd become a depressed person..
Help! what can i do??? I think I will be stuck in interior designing ..
I would really like to hear some examples about students who got accepted in M.arch without a B.arch or BA in arch degree

Lys, it’s not clear to me why you are stuck. You say you can’t afford an architecture degree so you are going to get a math or interior design degree. I’m not sure it costs more to major in architecture than in math or interior design. If you get another degree there is no problem in getting an MArch, but it will take you 3.5 years. If you do an undergraduate degree in architecture you can get your masters in 2 years and save a year and a half of college tuition. There are a lot of solid state schools that would provide a solid BS or BA in architecture. An undergraduate degree in something else is fine if there are things you want to explore before focusing exclusively on architecture, but I don’t think it is a real money saving move.

Its good to be stuck… there are currently very few jobs in Architecture.

First of all Im sorry if my post wasnt clear enough. The thing is I have already wasted a year without college and I cannot enter a B.arch program in any other university(missed the deadline) and my only options right now are either math or interior design.(by the way the tuition is a little lower)

Actually Id like to experience a major and get a degree different from architecture just to have more flexibility, frankly I dont think Im 100% ready for a B.arch program, so its not just about the money its more about what I want.

Rick, youre saying it doesnt matter what degree I have in order to get masters in architecture, its just the number of years that changes, If so that would be great, I dont mind spending another 3 years in college…
Anyway …I was thinking of attending a semester at a public university where I would take only math and phys classes such as linear algebra, calculus, mechanics… Before moving to my interior design program
Do you think the math and phys are a waste of time? Should I go directly to interior designing?
(PS: Im not a native speaker so excuse me for my bad English)

Lys, I think a semester in math and physics is probably one of the prerequisites for an MArch, so you would not be wasting your time. Go look at some of the MArch programs to get an idea of what they require, it will begin to shape what electives you take. Interior design degrees should be a help in an MArch program though without a national accreditation board the programs are all over the place. Some are close to architecture with students planning and shaping spaces, others are no more than rag pickers putting nice materials boards together.
