Hey guys!

I got accepted to the Georgia Tech ECE Grad program. But it is a conditional acceptance, the condition being that i will have to stay for the first two semesters at Georgia Tech - Lorraine, the GT campus at france. I can do the last semester from Georgia Tech - Atlanta.
The offer letter also mentions that the degree I will receive will not mention any of this but will simply state that I have graduated from Georgia - Tech!

Is it a good decision to accept this admission offer?
Will I be considered at par with other GT students for jobs or further admissions?

THANKS!!!

You applied for regular acceptance to the Atlanta campus and they told you that first you have to go to Lorraine for two semesters? Weird.

I heard it’s a great experience though.

I’m willing to bet he’s an international student.

If you are an international student, and your goal is to seek employment in the US after graduation, it could be a problem. Most employers hiring international students will either post them in an international location, or will want to see a decent length of study (usually 2+ years) in the US before hiring. The concern is that if you hire someone that just moved to the US a few months ago, that person could decide in his first year of employment that he doesn’t like the culture, and wants to move back to France, for instance.

If the program moves you to the US in August and expects you to graduate in December, that means that you’ll interview for jobs within a month of moving the US. That could be a problem with some employers (of course, there could be some that just don’t care).

If your interest is PhD work, it won’t matter as much - you’ll be a Georgia Tech graduate with a Georgia Tech GPA. However, if your interest is a PhD program, you might want to consider a thesis-option program, and not the 18 month non-thesis MS.

Well, I can only say from my limited experience that if you are concerned in the lifestyle of France vs. Atlanta… that GT Lorraine is absolutely amazing, however, it’s quite different from Georgia Tech. It’s much smaller and a bit limited compared to Tech, but if you could do one semester in Lorraine and one semester in Tech that sounds cool.
