My dad in on social security and for some reason when my mom filled out the fafsa she got confused. The SS we counted towards our AGI, but my mom also put it under other untaxed benefits and income.

So we essentially counted it twice making it look like we got 30000 in untaxed benefits we didn't get.

What should I do? This could make a huge difference. If it helps I applied to mostly UC's and USC as a transfer and have only heard back from two schools so far. Is it too late?

What difference did it make in the EFC?

I don’t know if it is too late or not.

It cut my EFC from 15 k to 8 K

You should amend your FAFSA and send emails to your school(s) FA departments letting them know of the change.

Btw, are your dad’s Social Security benefits actually taxable? If not, they should not be part of the AGI number either. She should use the actual AGI from their tax forms.

Yes, they are taxable.

Thank you for the advice, I will do just that. Hopefully it won’t be an issue.
