I was admitted to 8 of my 11 schools and am considering 3: Northeastern University, Connecticut College, and Hamilton College. Any input would be helpful!
Go where you would be happiest and has the best financial aid package.
If you are an aspiring writer, Hamilton without a doubt.
@livinginLA I was looking for more specific advice as to the atmosphere, academics (probably should have mentioned I plan on majoring in biochemistry or chemistry), etc., but thank you.
Hamilton’s curriculum is balanced evenly across sciences and math, humanities and fine arts and social sciences. This is one of the school’s decided strengths and should be considered in your decision if this appeals to you.
I’m hesitant to post statistical factors on your topic, in that I recommend you make your decision based on your own preferences, but Hamilton has by far the highest reported admission yield among your choices. That is, of those students who have the opportunity to attend these colleges, a greater percentage do so at Hamilton than at the other two.
You haven’t provided much on what you are looking for socially / academically / atmospheres - list off some of your criteria, must have’s, deal breakers, etc
@PengsPhils I am looking for somewhere I can meet people and form a small group of close friends. Partying and drinking are not my kind of things so I’d prefer a school where there is not much pressure to drink even when I do go to parties. I would also prefer a school not filled with preppy pretentious prep school kids. On the academic side I know all three of these schools have very good academics. I really like class participation which is why Hamilton and Conn are appealing to me and I worry that at Northeastern I’ll be just another student in a classroom. I also prefer colleges with a collaborative academic environment instead of cutthroat competitive academics.
From what you describe you are looking for, Hamilton seems the best fit. Has an intellectual vibe, open curriculum, less preppy and sporty than Conn. Conn is a great school as well, but for your criteria, Hamilton seems a good fit
I too would lean toward Hamilton given your description. I recommend revisiting if at all possible.
I would also be interested in considering Trinity if anyone has any advice for there
“I would also prefer a school not filled with preppy pretentious prep school kids.”
I’m bound to piss off somebody with my opinion, but of the schools you’ve mentioned Trinity by far meets this description.
My vote is for Hamilton.
Trinity may be becoming even more preppy while some of some of its NESCAC peers are becoming less so.
Hamilton has a mix of artsy and preppy/sporty students from what I heard. Connecticut is known to be preppy, but they have strong arts programs so you will find artsy students there too. Northeastern isn’t usually a destination for prep schoolers, but you’re less likely to find artsy students or those wanting to sit around discussing Plato. From my understanding Northeastern is kind of pre-professional oriented. Ultimately, you need to spend time on all 3 campuses and ask yourself what feels right and if the people you see are your kind of people
