please help me decide whether or not I should I apply ED! I'm desperate!!

Hey guys,
I have a HUGE dilemma that I need to solve in a couple of days and I desperately need your help! Any advice/comment would be great!

I'm a senior this year, and my GPA up to Junior year has been great.
But for some reason, I'm not getting the right grades for AP Biology and AP Spanish.
For AP Spanish, I had three tests this quarter and I messed up one of them, which is gonna bring my grade down significantly. For AP bio, I messed up the only test that we got so far, and I think there's only gonna be one more test this quarter which is not enough to bring up my grade....
Basically, my grade has dropped significantly (only in spanish and bio) since last year.
("Significantly" meaning spanish grade from 97 to somewhere high 80s or low 90s and bio/science grade from 95 to high 80s)
I actually studied alot for these tests, but for some reason, by messing up one test in those two classes, I messed up my senior GPA

I'm not sure how bad this is for college admission but I'm pretty nervous
So even though my original dream school was yale, I am now actually considering applying to Dartmouth (my second choice) ED.

I don't mind going to Dartmouth (it's a great college!!) but I'm not sure I should give up on yale just because I got lousy grades in the first quarter of senior year...
Is this grade in senior year gonna decrease my chance of getting into Yale in RD significantly?
(currently I'm not applying to Yale EA because I don't think I'll get into Yale and I didn't finish the supplement essay yet for Yale)

I am very confused of what to do right now. I love both schools but,
would it make sense to apply to Dartmouth, so that I won't be rejected from Ivy schools in RD because of senior year grade? or should I just try applying yale EA even though I don't think I'll get int? Or should I just wait for RD, hoping that my senior grade won't count as much as the other three years?

Thanks

What was your GPA at the beginning of the semester? What are your test scores? With the whole profile it would be easier to make a suggestion.

First, there is no guarantee that Dartmouth would take you with or without your lower GPA. Second, you do not know what your final semester grades will be. Bs would not kill your chances if those were the only two, ever, and they are in AP classes.Third, if you have your heart set on Yale, you should conseider going for it (assuming stats and previous GPA are stellar.) Lastly, don’t assume senior grades won’t count as much–adcoms know the hardest senior courses are most like college courses, and want to see that you can do the work. Good luck.

Well, in my school we use “quarters” so basically we have " 4 semesters"
and I did not get my 1st quarter grade yet. We are gonna get it after two weeks.
The thing is for those two classes, there is a higher chance for me to get high 80s than low 90s, and considering that my school is a catholic school and not very competitive (or considered academically competitive to colleges), I’m guessing that’s gonna eliminate my chance to get into yale in RD. I am taking 5 ap classes this year, and that’s more compared to last year ( I took 3 aps). but still, isn’t this drop too big?

bump…

I got my test back for Ap bio and now i’m sure my ap bio grade will be in the 80s.
Would this hurt me alot. Are there any people who got into yale RD with two subjects in senior year that wasn’t top notch?

bump…how important is the senior year grade? Is messing up in two subjects (but doing excellent in others) would ruin my chance to get into top schools? and by the way, I’m asian…

here are some obvious answers for you to see:

1) GPA isn’t calculated until the end of the year. If anything, the adcoms will be looking at your semester grades, but not at your gpa.
2) apply to your first choice. There’s no guarentee you’ll get into Yale or Dartmouth, or wherever. But at least, it tells the school “you’re my first choice, Now what do ya think?”
3) continue working hard to keep up those grades. You may end up getting deferred, & this is why: they want to see how you’ll finish the year, because so far, you’ve had a little trouble.

I applied ED to Dartmouth with a 2300+ and was deferred then rejected. I did get into Brown (where I am going) and Columbia RD, and I was rejected from HYP and D. All I know is the Ivies are a toss-up at the top level. My best friend got into Yale and Princeton and was rejected from Dartmouth and Stanford. Go figure.
