Please help me? Do I stand a chance at getting into SLO?

Well my GPA has taken a dent from taking honors English though I wasn’t the best at it even though I was up for the challenge.

I’m currently a Junior and these are a summary of my “academic stats”

I have a Academic 9-12th grade GPA of 3.38
Total GPA of 3.6
And a Weighted GPA of 3.8

I currently have done Honors Chem(got a C though :(), honors Bio with a B; I have received a B in Alg 3/4 (soph year);

I’ll be ending this year with most likely aiming for/ 97% sure:
I have 7 classes +2 more(outside of school)
Band=A
English= A+
Trig(I’m on the border between a C+/ and B-(I’m going to try my best for the B)
Bio AP= B (however I received a C the 1st semester)
History A+
Yearbook A
Newspaper A

I did have English AP 1st semester but I had a C then my English teacher said it would be in my benefit to switch to the normal class and pull off the A since he said my Academic GPA was taking a hit.

I am also taking an engineering class at the local college on the weekends (I’ll get a A in it) Principles of Engineering (3 units)
And also my health class (via BYU) distance ed… (its required to graduate) I’m taking it online should get an A in that too

I have 4 years of Spanish done as well
I also have “all the sciences” completed (Bio/Chem/AP Bio/Physics)…

For next year I’m taking AP Calc, AP studio art, Newspaper, Acadec, English, Govt, Band. I should be able to pull off A’s in all except AP Calc (B or C?)???

I’m also taking over this summer Computer Science or Chem (yr 2 class)-equiv. to AP chem in HS, and Economics at the local CC.

My GPA should be getting higher now that I’m not taking classes that may leave a huge dent without any benefit

For leadership ops I’ve done band for 4 years, I have a leadership position in that, For our award winning yearbook I’ve been in it for 3 years, I’m an assistant photo Editor this year…The Senior photo ed. next year… I’m the photo ed. for the paper this year, and next.
I also have done 4 years of a “run the city council for a day” program with the city which I reside in.
I do music tutoring as a part time hobby(for those that need help)…
I take pictures for my temple, volunteer at the temple, and hospital (when I have time), and the school library.

I also have helped the less fortunate by finding computers to be donated then delivering and setting them up for the less fortunate in Mexico, and helped an Orphanage in Sri Lanka, and Tsunami Victims there.

Anything else I can do to improve my chances for SLO?

I also did my SATII tests recently(no scores yet) I did pretty well from what I felt in Math Lvl 2, extremely well in Biology...

(not that well in physics)...........
(though I got an A in that class)...

I will be taking the ACT and SATI in a few weeks though

Sounds like you'll be applying as an engineering major? You've got a shot, the GPA is a little low, but with good SAT scores you could really improve your chances. Try to get a 2000+ on the SAT. And I heard for engineering majors they really look at your math and science grades......

Depends on the major
http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_admiss/Pdf/currentprofile.pdf has stats for Fall '06
They haven't released the profile for this year yet, but I think many noticed a jump in admissions difficulty. it gets harder every year.

I believe cal poly wants your weighted gpa 10th-11th grade. however Ive heard someone say they take freshman year into account as well. For admission they take the top certain percentage of the pool of applicants for that major. I believe its all computerized. there are no personal staements and they dont do appeals

as for ECs....they dont matter too much. In fact you dont even get to list them. using a drop down menu, they ask you:
About how many hours on a certain basis ?
Had a job related to your major ?
Natl merit finalist ?
Valectorian?

as for getting into engineering, the common response from poly tour guides/students was 'around a 4.0' (weighted) However it also depends on the eng major you pick. ME i believe is most competitive and BME the least. I got into bme for fall 07 with a 3.75 W and people have gotten in with ~3.3 last year. If you really want to go i suggest you sign up for early decision when time comes. You still have time to try the sat/act again. SATII is not used for admission but the math/writing is used for placement.
so i guess if you're really passionate and after this look at: keeping it up in school, improve SAT (it can make up for a lower gpa), major-related work . remember, its just all numbers! goodluck

What's BME just wondering? I heard Industrial Engineering is pretty easy there? If I kept my GPA up I could X-fer after a year to mech. engineering correct?

Is it Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical Engineering is not the easiest engineering major. I would say civil engineering or industrial engineering has to be the easiest.

To get into for SLO correct?

i'd say computer engineering is pretty easy. i have a friend who just got in for fall 07 and he had around a 3.8 w gpa and 1650 SAT.

My UC applicable GPA is 3.52.

your stats look better than mine and i got into cal poly, but i applied as a business/math major.

You have a chance, especially if you rock the SAT. BTW WRX’s are awesome
