I am a nervous wreck waiting to hear if my daughter will be accepted to Auburn University for the Fall of 2013. She is a horrible standardized test taker. Her highest score on the ACT is a 23. She is 3rd in her class with weighted GPA of 4.34. She obviously was not a candidate for Early Action. My question is what are her chances of being accepted in the next round beginning November 15th? Your responses are greatly appreciated!

Whats her GPA? Is she minority applicant ? Rigorous record covering all their required classes ?

Auburn lists the most important criteria as GPA, Essay and ACT. Her ACT score puts her at the bottom of the range. That spot is normally where you see students who have some other aspect of the application standing out…minorities, scholarship athletetes, etc.

So if her GPA is good and they find something interesting in the Essay and she can check off some other the “other” qualities (resident, first gen, ECs, service) maybe. Certianly is an app they might reject.

If you havent written the Essay yet make sure to convey the message that she absolutely wants this school above anything else in life. Schmoozing the admins always helps.

She is not a minority applicant. Her weighted GPA is a 4.34, unweighted is 3.878. She is an honors student. Her step-father is an alum. She is an in state applicant.

And thank you for responding!

GL to you and your daughter. The GPA looks good and the rigor certianly helps.

I think when they list Essay as a most important they are really just leaving room for their own judgement. In your situation thats a good thing…its not just numbers.

If you have the budget to have her attend a test-optional school, your safety should be one.

Thank you both, and we will definitely look at test-optional schools!
