Chance for UGA

My daughter has applied for admission to UGA. Has a 3.8 GPA, the required AP courses, honors courses, lots of extra curricular activities including class officer each year, athletics, community service hours. The big hiccup is low SAT, 1100 combined reading and math, and 24 composite ACT reading and math. What are her chances for admission?

UGA: Match

Does your reply mean you think she will be accepted?

Not sure if you are IS or OOS, and it doesn’t seem to matter at UGA, but the mid-50% for first year admissions last year (2012-2013) was 3.73-4.03 GPA and 27-31 ACT. That is a “stripped down/HOPE” GPA, meaning unweighted, except for a slight bump for AP’s. The fact that the RD review is more holistic would be in your D’s favor. It’s just hard to say with the lower test scores. UGA admissions are extremely competitive and every year I hear about students with great stats being passed over. Are there any hooks? Maybe URM or geographic diversity? Some would say that it’s a slight disadvantage to come from one of the metro-ATL area HS’s because literally hundreds from each school apply to UGA every year. Good luck to your D!

Thanks, she wants to go to pharmacy school, that is why UGA is so important. So I guess we will see. She just gets so nervous on the big standardize tests and does not do well and they just don’t reflect how smart she is.:(

She has a 3.7 Hope GPA and we are from a small Christian private school in Augusta.

Klb418 - if it makes you feel any better, my GPA is 3.85 and I got 1160 CR + M, and I got accepted with the 1st round of RD admissions. Our stats are very similar. Did your daughter also take the ACT? I did better on it - got a 29.

yes, she did take the ACT. Composite of 23 on that but had 24 reading and 25 math score. She just does not do well on timed standardized tests. When were you accepted?

UGA: High match

@klb418 - February 22nd with first wave of admissions.

Thank you for all of your replies. Hopefully we will get good news. Congratulations to you jennee98 on your acceptance!

Thank you klb418, and I hope your family gets some great news very soon.
