Please help me get 700+ for SAT writing section!

My CR is weak (600) and math is strong (720+). My writing is around 610-630

I take my test in January 25 and so I want to improve my writing section.

I'm on my last test from the bluebook and I'm still hitting low 600's. The thing is, I keep making the same mistake (noun-verb agreement and idiom errors).

I review all my work but I make mistakes or can't decide between two "reasonably-sounding" ones.

What is your advice?

Also, I just can't grasp idioms because I don't speak English at home. It's not obvious for me that it's "protest against" because "protest on" sounds pretty good. I can't tell the difference. I also seem to make at least one mistake on the last 5 questions on the 35 question writing section.

I need to get 700+ so that I can break 2000 next month! Please help me.

lol this is what I am trying to do. I pretty much have the same exact scores as you (700+ math, around 600-650 cr and low 600’s for writing) and I was in the 1900’s last time but couldn’t break 2000.

I figure the writing is the easiest and you just have to memorize idioms. that’s what i’m doing.

Are you a senior? I would take the March SAT if I were you because it is ten times easier. (I"ve looked at the past tests for it)

What do you mean March test is easier? I’m in the 11th grade? The difficulty is random.

Do more practice tests IMO, hunt around if you have to. Make sure you read the solutions and explanations as to why something is right or wrong. Or hell, look at why your answers are right if you’re making a lot of gut decision. A understanding of the grammar behind the right choice is probably better than just “I know why it’s right”.

You’ll start to detect patterns. If it helps at all, idioms and their prepositions trip me up and I’m a native English speaker… the only real way to do this is test more and understand the explanations, imo.

Oh, and if you can hit a 9-11 regularly on the written portion, you’re probably doing well; unlike multiple choice sections, the curve is relatively forgiving for essays. Unless you’re aiming for a 750+, don’t worry about crafting 11 or 12 essays every time.

(Now trade your math score with mine, 570, and we’ll be good… :p)

I would suggest using the online SAT course from PR. It’s really helpful!
