Please Help Me. I might have just destroyed my chances for college.

so, I had just submitted common app, and i had print previewed.

for some reason, it worked before.

after looking again, my personal statement an additional information is blank. I just realized that this is the result of using a mac font type, rather than pc type.

what can I do? I can't edit my app anymore. can I call common app? can I send my essays to colleges?

please help me.

What font is it? If the font has the file format .ttf, then it can be recognized by Windows. As long as you saved your personal statement and additional info in another document you can email colleges about this and send in your personal statement and additional info. I don’t think you’re the first to stumble upon this problem and it certainly wasn’t in your control so I’m sure colleges will understand.

Hmmm… I am not sure how to check the font file format, but the font was cambria.

Luckily, I have the documents.

I suppose that I will either just create a new common app account

That is a terrible idea. You will lose all of your rec letter info, and colleges will be unpleasantly surprised and confused.

You’re fine, don’t worry. Cambria is the default font for Microsoft Word for Mac and it comes with all Windows Vista and 7 PCs. So I think your written responses should have appeared in the PDF but for some reason it did not.

Have you tried viewing the PDF in both PC and a Mac? If your written responses don’t show up on either just tell the colleges that your application is complete but the written responses on your app form did not get processed correctly due to some glitch. And contact Common App about this, I’m certain this shouldn’t happen.
