Please Help Me Narrow Down My College List

Hi everyone! I'm a rising senior looking to major in biomedical engineering or biomolecular engineering. Please help me narrow down my long list of schools based on my qualifications and intended major. Let me know if I am aiming too high according to my stats; feel free to criticize, I won't take it personally.

I have consistency, depth, and leadership in my extra curriculars, not too concerned about those. I'm more concerned with my scores.

Year: 2011
Class Rank: 11/276

SAT: 2200 Composite
CR: 700 M: 800 W: 700 (June 2010)

SAT II:
Chemistry: 620 (taken junior year)
Math Level II: 720 (taken junior year)
US History: 590 (taken sophomore year)

GPA: 4.25/4.0 Weighted
3.80/4.0 Unweighted

SCHOOLS:

Brown University
Carnegie Mellon University
Columbia University
Duke University
Harvard College
Johns Hopkins University
Penn State University (safety)
Princeton University
Stanford University
University of California: Berkeley
University of North Carolina: Chapel Hill
University of Pennsylvania
University of Pittsburgh (safety)

Any input is greatly appreciated..I'm on my own in the admissions process, parents aren't being of much help. Please let me know if you think i have a chance at any of these schools! (oh, and I'm a white, middle-class female from Pennsylvania).

Thanks again, and sorry for the long post!

Your 2200 SAT score is terrible; you’re not getting in anywhere… lol

In all seriousness, though, with just the criteria you’ve listed here, you’re a solid candidate for all colleges on your list. The majority of them are reaches, however, since you don’t have any hooks. Make sure to write great essays! Anyways, here are my predictions:

Safety: PennState, UPitt
Good Match: UNC - Chapel Hill, Carnegie Mellon
Low Reach: Johns Hopkins, Duke, UPenn, UC Berkeley
Mid Reach: Brown, Columbia
High Reach: Harvard, Princeton, Stanford

Although Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford are high reaches, they’re still possibilities because your scores are within range for all three. You said you had stellar EC’s, so with that, you’ve got a shot, but certainly not a great one.

I think you’re guaranteed admission at PennState, UPitt, UNC - Chapel Hill, and Carnegie Melon. You’ve got a very good shot at Johns Hopkins, Duke, UPenn, and Berkeley. If you really nail that application (great essays, great teacher recs, etc.), you would have a decent shot at Brown and Columbia. Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford are slightly out of reach, so I wouldn’t bank on getting accepted from any of them, but it never hurts to apply (since you’re within range).

Best of luck! :)

Your SATII scores are very low for the top schools. Also, you should be concerned about your extracurriculars. Harvard and Princeton in particular want to see spectacular ECs.

Thanks for your input. I understand that my extra curriculars play a huge part in my application, but I just got my June SAT scores back and wanted to see if I was choosing appropriate schools based on my scores rather than on my activities.
