OP- check your PMs for specific UBC comments from some one who attended the school

@ kristin: I did not mean to come across as condescending or rude and I apologize if I do. I really do appreciate the genuine advice that you have given me (such as truly exploring the reason as to why I want to go into medicine). It has given me a few more goals that I now want to do such as working as an EMT (which I hope to get certified by the end of the year), working in another non-medically related clinical setting so that I can experience the world for a while, do some more research to expose myself to the science aspect some more, so please don’t take offense. You have given me several new things to think about and I deeply apologize for coming across as rude in anyway. Its just the frustration I get from reading the so called “advice” from other people who tell me to quit medicine because they think I can’t make it.

@ mom2boys: I did not mean that nurses, or NPs, were “inferior” or “superior” to doctors. I don’t deny that there are plenty of Indian nurses that you work with but I am just writing what has been my experience, and the fact that what other “Indians” do or don’t become is irrelevant of what I want to do. I was addressing a question BDM asked and the cultural stereotype was something that had perpetuated my fear of failure, since I thought that if I failed I would be judged negatively by those who were successful around me, but this is independent of my passion to be a doctor.

@ ChemFreak: It doesn’t matter what they do in undergrad since at the end of the day they eventually apply to med school and become doctors anyway.

@ Colleges/mcat2: I guess im not a “typical Indian pre med” then. I worked there everyday Monday - Friday from morning to evening, assisting patients, sitting in discussions, going on rounds, watching live surgeries. I have interacted with plenty of patients as proof in addition to having references there that will vouch for my work too.

@ somemom: Thank you for the information.

Hmm, this is an ancient bump, but I wonder how OP is doing right now?

Honestly, I’ve been wondering if its the same person. Even the way they write is similar.

Well since I live in Canada and have never attended college in NY, it can’t be me. Not to mention that I’ve finished 4 years of uni with a 2.41 GPA with 118 credits.

We could start our own club though.

Youre right, everything written on cc is truth after all…

Yea well you have no way of knowing. Guess you have to play the waiting game. Hope the suspense doesn’t kill ya!

Closing old thread.
