Already applying to UT, A&M, Rice, Chicago, Stanford, Pomona, Cal-Tech

I was deferred from Rice ED despite being a triple legacy :(, so I would really like help thinking of a good safety or two.

Interested in majoring in Math, Engineering(Chem, Mech, Comp), or Computer Science

Are you interested in state schools at all? If so, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin could be solid safeties for you. Or your own state school depending on where you live.

Thanks!
I live in Texas, so UT and A&M were my state schools.
I am not too in to state schools, as OOS tuition can be killer (then again, so can private), but I’ll definitely do some research into those.

P.S.- I just got back from a Rockets game, if that’s the “Tmac” that you’re referring to!

The acceptance rate is high, but not as much for engineering. With your stats, you can definitely get accepted though. However, even if you apply there right now, it will likely be hard to get into engineering as they have a limited number of seats for the engineering program, many of which have likely been filled from their first round of rolling decisions.

Wow deferred Rice? It seems to me like you should have been accepted. Anyways, Purdue is great for engineering but the tuition is high OOS. And if you live in texas aren’t you guaranteed acceptance to a state school if you have a certain GPA? anyways GL :)

Thanks for the input guys :), still more input would be appreciated!

@Mr.HS
Top 10% of your graduating class guarantees admission into UT, regardless of the competitiveness of your school, your course rigor, or your athletic status. So, being an athlete and IB Diploma candidate works against me…

I am automatically in to A&M because of my SAT scores, so I am looking at more of a strong match or two, so that I can have some options in case I am rejected from my schools.

DANG you won’t be needing too many safeties.
But if you really must, some schools in my home state are good safeties. I dunno if you’re from NY or not, but look at:
SUNY Buffalo
SUNY Binghamton
and SUNY Stony Brook
(publics)
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute would be a good safety for you (private)
