please help me

Help I been studying constantly for the sat... I practically see no improvement for 2 months. I have a hard time in the critical reading and writing sections and can never improve. Any resources I can use to improve on the sat? Or is it simply the sat just isnt for me at all?

what is your current score range, out of what book are you taking tests to get these scores, and when do you plan to take the SAT?

I have 8-11 months to prepare. Im taking the blue book for the sat. I got a 1400… 500-550 for math 425 on critical reading.450-510 on the writing sections. My score have not improved once…

heres a problem on the writing part… I dont know the errors nor can I identify then.Just went through sat grammar rule bootcamp and I still cant apply it to them. Everything else I can improve on… but writing nearly impossiple?

im screwed if I dont find help :(. I can say goodbye to my dream school and making this account nearly useless :(.Life always finds a way to screw me over

im a first generation college student with family make less than 19k a year supporting a family of 3 .And was even harder back then when my parents had to raise a family of 4 and 5

please help ;_;

Bump

Since you have close to a year, at this point try just reading. If you read often enough, you’ll eventually be able to intuitively pick out the correct writing responses and CR will be much easier. Find an interesting fantasy novel or something.

Also, as a general writing tip, many of the sentence-correction questions are just subject-pronoun agreement, make sure that you always check that.

no give me real advice. I still dont know anything

Advice can be suggested, but you don’t have to take it: Maybe your scores are trying to tell you something. Save money and go to Community college first, to build up your grades and your self-esteem.

Why would I do that?If I did that, I can just spit on my sisters grave for trying so hard to push me(She went to NYU and worked so hard to be a role model)…My first generation asian student status wouldve been useless and my dreams that much harder to achieve

Reading a lot is actually very good advice. Now that you have the summer off, read a lot of challenging books and news articles to expand your vocabulary and improve your passage based reading. If you really want to work on your vocab, try getting an SAT vocab book (I hear direct hits is really good).

Dude you got this! Don’t let anyone tell you to just “go to a community college” or anything like that. In the essence, the SAT test is between you and yourself only. It doesn’t care about how rich or how poor or how old or how young you are. It’s just a long test that you have to endure. Preparation is absolutely crucial for you!

First things first. So, you have the Blue Book made by the College Board and I presume that you have taken a couple practice tests already which is good. The key to the SAT is knowing what the test is like and what type of questions will be asked on the test. I personally take two timed sections from the BB each day and then grade myself and then review the questions that I got wrong. I suggest you also take at one section per day and review the answers.

By doing practice tests you will notice which sections you are the weakest at. For example, you said earlier that you are not familiar with grammar rules and things like that. This is when you buy books specified for each section.

These are the books that I personally recommend for each SAT section (note, that you can buy other ones too):

Math: Dr. Chung’s math or PWN the SAT math

Critical Reading: The Critical Reader by Erica Meltzer AND Direct Hits volume 1 and 2 (this is a must!!!)

Writing (MC only): The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar by Erica Melter (second edition)

Essay: Look at some College Confidential forums like this one <a href=“Defeating the SAT essay in 2 days - SAT Preparation - College Confidential Forums”>Defeating the SAT essay in 2 days - SAT Preparation - College Confidential Forums;

I can’t emphasize enough how good The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar is for the writing section. This is probably the first book you should get because all the rules on the SAT are explained here. You should also buy the Direct Hits books pretty early because if you’re anything like me, it takes a loooooong time to fully memorize a bunch of new vocabulary words.

If you really want to score better, you have to be very dedicated. You can’t just study once or twice a week; it has to be an every day routine. And btw, this post was written very quickly so, it won’t be the best advice you will find on CC. The fact that you’re asking for help multiple times and trying to bump up your thread makes me think that you haven’t looked at SilverTurtle’s or Xigis or anyone else’s fantastic threads. I’ve peeked around CC forums for less than a month and I’ve increased my SAT score and vocabulary by just actively following other peoples tips and tricks. Get down for what? ( insert awesome beat drop) Get down to work! XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

So how can I follow those guys?like silver turtle or xigis

How do I really know if act or sat is better for me?

Xiggi’s guide:

Silverturtle’s guide:

These two forums are literally the very first when you go to the SAT Preparation subsection here on CC. I strongly advise you to set up a rigorous study plan so you can prep efficiently. You have the power of internet on your side; use it well. Regarding your ACT vs SAT question, I honestly don’t know because it’s different for every person.

With all question…What a good study plan.Take a 2 test every single week and study 3 hours every day?For the summer?

That too huge you got a pdf maturk?

Well the guide wasnt very helpful since my sister re literated most of that stuff when I was in middle school. She isnt with me anymore though.
