Please help me with this math question. I do not understand the solution:
If (a-5)(b+5)<5, then which of the following must be true?
Answer: bpi-5
If there is no relation sign, like = or >, how can sth be true or false?
Thank you in advance
Can you type the question exactly as it is written, with the answer choices? Or is the “answer” equal to b*pi - 5 (b times pi, minus 5)?
Also forgot to add, can you provide the source of the problem? The problem statement itself looks vague.
I have typed the question exactly as written. I will type it once again: If (a-5)(b+5)<5, then which of the following must be true?
A) a <5
B) aπ-5
C) bπ-5
D) b>-5
E) a>5
Answer: C) bπ-5
@Relax2954 no test prep source in their right mind would put “a times pi, minus 5” as an answer choice.
My best guess is that you typed π (pi) instead of ≠ (not equal to). Otherwise the question and its answer choices make no sense.
Where is this question from?
EDIT: Whoops failed to realize, even if π was replaced with ≠, the question would still make no sense, as none of the answer choices have to be true. Are there any restrictions on a and b?
