please HELP ME

I am an international student who is applying to US college for fall 2008 session. I have an inquiry about the financial aid form. In one section, we are asked to fill the amount of money from summer earnings. Are international students allowed to work during summer in USA? If we are allowed then we cannot actually predict the amount that we earn. I am confused. Can anyoneplease explain in detail, please?

You would be allowed to work.
You can work on the campus of your college unrestrictedly (e.g. in the dining halls if they are open for a summer session, or help renovating buildings, give tours of the campus...), and you can work off campus for a total of 12 months while you are pursuing your degree or immediately afterwards (it's called "Optional Practical Training").

Colleges usually have a set amount of summer earnings that they expect you to contribute, regardless of what you say on your fin aid application. At my college it's currently $1,800 per summer.
