Ok so i'm going to a community college in Michigan.
I completed the FAFSA back in December but never heard anything back and missed the winter semester.
So I called up the counselors from my school and they said to redo it so what I did was just update it because I already had a FAFSA on file.
So they do contact my school after I complete the FAFSA correct?
When will I hear from my school regarding what Aid/loans I can get because classes start in May and registration starts very soon?
Thanks in advance

Are you looking for aid for THIS school year (2009-2010) or next (2010-2011).

If you are looking for aid for THIS current school year…the 2009-2010 year, you would have completed THAT FAFSA in December. I’m not sure what you would have updated since the info on it would have been based on your 2008 tax returns…completed LONG before December 2009.

If you are looking for aid for NEXT school year 2010-2011…there is NO WAY you could have updated the info from December as that was a DIFFERENT FAFSA year. You would need to complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA for the school year that is beginning in Aug/Sept 2010.

I didn’t update anything major,I just updated email etc because last time I don’t think my school received that I completed the FAFSA so I updated hoping that they receive it this time. Can you answer my last two questions from my OP.
Thanks

Eric your post is confusing. Did you receive an e-mail referencing your FAFSA submittal and a SAR? Do you know that your FAFSA and the changes were processed? You should have received an e-mail from FAFSA telling you your FAFSA was processed and telling you that your SAR (Student Aid Report) summary is available on-line. Once you see that e-mail your college can access the information and put a financial aid report together for you. FAFSA does NOT contact the school, the school will download the information. So bottom line in answer to your question, if you can access the SAR on the FAFSA website, then your college can access the information and should be able to process an aid package for you and you can ask your financial aid office when they would have it for you. If you cannot access the SAR then there is a problem at your end with how you filled out or submitted the FAFSA I suspect.

ok thanks you answered my questions, I did receive that email as I don’t think I did last time when I submitted it. From my understanding I will receive something in the mail from my school in 1-2 weeks right? If not I will give them another call.
Thanks again

Eric,

I think you ought to stop by the FA office at the school to make sure everything is in order and to find out how you can register with FA pending. You do not want your registration to be cancelled for lack of payment if the computer is not set up to expect FA for your account.

GOOD LUCK! :-)

^^Agree it would be good to stop by or give a call. Just to make sure… you did fill out the FAFSA for the correct school year…right? For aid this spring it would be the FAFSA 2009-2010 and for next school year it would be 2010-2011. Double check that, too, that you submitted and 2009-2010 processed…before you stop in.

Thanks for all your help
Yes I now do plan on heading over to the FA office at my school sometime next week. And yes I did submit the 2009-2010 FAFSA for the Spring semester. Only thing is that I know I probably won’t get FA but i’m just submitting it to see what other federal loans i’m eligible for and go from there because I need student loans ASAP.
